    Hi,
my GF and i have been going out for nearly 5 years and are engaged and i recently found out i need to go to the US for the next 6 months with work i will be going for two weeks and returning for one week. i travel quite a bit with work but mainly europe and always return at the weekends but this has really pushed her over the edge and i understand why but there is no talking to her. i called up earlier and she had taken off my engagement ring. what can i do.

Ask her to go with you. Will your employeers put her up too?
On a side note, sounds like serious problems that you should be really talking to her about. Half a year is a long time, especially when you're engaged. All you can do is talk to her about it. There's also the other side, is your job more important than her?

Something like this you need to figure out with her, or on your own.

Good luck with it, hope it works out for you.

What he said... the problem is not her.. its you.. or more so your situation. her response is normal.

Take her with you if you can.. if not do not go.. unless your happier in your job than with her.
Since you are engaged im assuming you love her and want to spend the rest of your life with her... since thats not going to happen if you feck off to the states for 6 months then you probably should consider not going.
On a side note it sounds like you have the perfect job for a young single guy :D

I think if yous are together that long and plan on spending the rest of your lives together the relationship should be able to take it.

You will be home every two weeks for a week! That's loads of time to spend together and six months just fly by. Not saying she should be happy to see you go but it's hardly the end of the world. Yous have many more years to spend together all the time.

The relationship doesn't sound strong enough to be getting married in my opinion. It's not like your leaving her to go off on holiday it's work!

When are you two getting married? I can understand her being upset with the situation but she should not be upset with you...maybe she just needs to calm down. My cousin was recently married and she was away on work all over the world in the months preceding, they built up a big phone bill! When my parents got married nearly 45 years ago my dad had to move over to London for work in the months before the wedding. If she does not calm down I would say that this could be a symptom of more serious problems and you need to have a serious talk.

Am I right in saying that it will be 2 weeks away, 1 week home, 2 weeks away, 1 week home; for 6 months? If that's the case it's not nearly as bad as just being gone for 6 months solid. Seems like she may be over reacting a bit. Set up a webcam and stuff in your house and use that to talk to her while your away, might reassure her a bit.

How long after you found out you had to go for work did you tell her?

Did you discuss it with her before telling work 'yes'?

There are lots of things that could be going on in her head, particularly if it was presented as a done deal.

how this all came about was i was offered a job in december that would involve travel we talked about it and accepted the offer and said we will give it a go i started working in europe in february and have been coming home every thursday and back sunday evening. initially it was just europe but now i have been offered another promotion that covers all sites worldwide and i found out friday that the US is the next location and unfortunately it is the only location that is available for the next few months. i totally get where she is coming from but my arguement is that it is only a small chunk out of the rest of our lives but hopefully things will all calm down soon
