Right guys, I am determined to take the engine out on the MGB this summer. I need to find space (around North ublin) to do this. Does anybody know of a suitable space I could rent for a month or so. I am even prepared to pay for the help of a mechanic... Please...
I have even scheduled some weeks off so I can work 7 days a week to get it done.

I should remember that the simple solutions are often the right ones.

It turns out that I dont have to take my engine out, as it is ok... I finally got round to buy a compression gauge and run the test on my engine. IT IS JUST FINE!!

Investigating further the cause of the VERY high oil consumption. It turns out that my crankcase breather system is clogged, this sends oil into the carbs instead of fumes only. Duh, why did I ... and all the mechanics I have talked to so far, not think of this first...

What a relief. I replaced the oil and filter with good classic quality stuff, tuned the carbs (with the colortune thing, quite good) and started to fix the breather, and oh boy, what a sweet difference... that engine is a gem... With the breather disconnected from the carbs, there is not a single puff of smoke at the back... Yahoo!!!

    Pheww

I thought I would share with you guys, in case one of you has a MGB with a smoky engine... Check this first, it may save you a lot of money.

Incidentally, the car is no longer for sale as it is simply too good. Spirits are now up are driving this machine on the coastal or country roads of your delightful country is just so exhilarating... I dont mind a little drizzle and the car can take it also, even the occasional downpour. As somebody else here said, "classics are not soluble" and a little water wont hurt :)
