Is it safe to take a plant out of it's pot to look at it's roots?

    Hey,

I have a plant whch was nearly dead a while ago. Most of it's roots were black.

I've since repotted (?) it and have been feeding it plant food etc.

I'd like to unearth it to see if it's root are making an improvement.

Will this damage the plant, or it is OK to do this?

Anyone who knows anything about this stuff, please let me know!

    Cheers.

Gardening/DIY might have better suggestions than the AH crew. I would say you could check the roots of it without doing any damage, what kind of a plant btw?

No.. The roots grab you over and have tentacle sex with you...

    Thanks for the info.

I have no idea what kind of plant it is. It kind of looks like a mini palm tree! I know it was an expensive exotic one anyway.

Can you believe it was lovely and healthy until hundreds of tiny white insects invaded it, killed the other plant in the pot (the same species of plant, there was two of them in the pot) but somehow didn't kill the remaining plant (although they seriously damaged it - it's fairly wilty now!)

The fact that it survived makes me quite fond of it...

Remember, no sudden movements or they will get you...

To be 100% honest, if the plant is recovering from some sort of a pest attack- digging around its rooting system is not going to do it any good. What you could best do is give it a good dose of pesticide (have a quick check on the net to try to find out what the offending insect was and try to make sure that the pesticide targets all stages of the growth cycle of the pest).

If it is some sort of a minature palm etc- put in a bright sunny place and make sure you do NOT over water it. If the roots are black they have most probably necrotised from water logging/root rot.

Try to disturb it as little as possible. Make sure the pest does not return. Water sparingly, but often. Give it light.

Who gives a sh!t? Let the ****ing plant die, it's only a plant. It's a lot more fun if you shout and taunt it as well. Call it a pussy and a useless heap of muck. Throw sweet wrappers at it and scream "How do you like that, ****head? Not so smart now, are you Batman?"

This is AH and as such, I suggest you feed it heroin, smoke John Player blue around it, and most importanly, let it absorb fumes from a souped-up, suspention-lowered 2005 Reno Clio for 12 hours solid.

Actually, considering your name is DOLEMAN, why don't you TYPE IN CAPS BESIDE IT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS TO REALLY CONFUSE IT.
Look, you're not going to be able to smoke whatever's left of its leaves, so just get Anto's mate to grow you another. And wake up in time to feed it this time.
