The Problem With Irish DJ's - My View

    G. Ryan - I can just picture him painting his fingernails red while sleazing over his Laydeez.
I do not care how much you enjoy your fancy trips to New York or Florida. I am not interested in your taste for finest champagne and cigars. I do not want to know how much you love to accept the hospitality of Harry Crosbie at the Point Depot or Lord Mountcharles at Slane Castle. I do not care that your local supermarket in Clontarf gives the best deals in town. I do not care that you dine at the Four Seasons and that the Ice Bar does the finest cocktails in town.
Gerry I just dont care any more...

Darcy - His constant flirting with the female sidekicks is wearing thin, For Gods sake GET A ROOM!!!

P Kenny - Just plain dull, he doesnt sound like he is enjoying himself. Gordon Ramsay said being interviewed by PK was the best 30 mins kip he had ever had!

Duffy - "Go on hmmm hmmm hmmm, and tell me Margaret how did you feel Hmmm Hmmmm Hmmm"

Tony Fenton - 70's boy with that fake semi-American accent. All he does is read the wacky stories in the papers...and no Tony, I do not want your "Gourmet coffee and Hand-Cut sandwiches" thank you.

Tubridy - Actually I think he is quite good but what kind of momentum can he build in a 1 hour slot. Come on RTE!!!

It cannot be that hard to get a couple of decent guests on the phone, there is always someone who has something to plug. Have a bit of a chat and maybe a few laughs with them. Play a few tunes maybe a few oldies, a few indie or punky and a few current and one or two ecclectic choices.

Its called radio programming, its not that difficult!

That's a fair enought assessment of Ryan. On the hole D'arcy knocks out a good show I think.

Out of interest, are there any DJ's that you rate. I like Tom Dunne, Jenny Houston and Donal Dineen mainly for the music they play. Alison Curtis and Ray D'Ary I like their shows.

Lately I've switched from Dempsey to Dunphy in the mornings.

Isn't Ray D'arcy going out with Jennifer Kelly? Maybe they already have a room. They have a good show.

I think Gerry Ryan is pompous and would agree with you regarding his social life.

    True on both counts.

It's great the way D'Arcy entertained his audience as kids(albeit with Zig and Zag) and now as adults.

Well, some of the presenters he mentioned are not in RTÉ

D'Arcy is with TodayFM for example.

While it lasts. If it were ever to breakup, the show will have its problems, as well as for the couple. I'm not wishing ill on them, no... but looking at the radio show, one of them would have to leave the studio, and it won't be Ray, so the on-air craic they have will go. From that, its hard to reinvent a show with the same lead presenter and a different crew.

Very good pen picture of G Ryan Tallspoon...You could have added you were not interested in his wifes weight/ass/behaviour...of his daughters doings...this guy has conned us for long enough..... ligger of the century imho

Ryan used to care about his listeners, but now all he cares about is who carries his wheelbarrows of cash to his door.... very good analysis of where Ryan is at the moment, OP.

I've always said that Ryan should go as he is getting on a bit for a 18-35 aimed radio station. (then Marty came on!) I want there to be a mass cull on 2FM... all aspects to be looked at... the only one of the old guard I'd save is Larry Gogan, and possibly Dave Fanning.

brilliant. you forgot to mention his trips to Wongs in clontarf. and bringing REX and his chums to the local disco. and his story about not being allowed smoke on the balcony of his hotel in calafornia.

    you've lost me too gerry

I like Ray, his show kept me laughing at times when I just wanted to go back to bed.

Tell you what sums it up for me....when some bogger bird that was reading traffic on the likes of 2fm one week for the AA is then unbelievably given her own radio show on 98FM...SHAMEFUL.

    And yes ITS CRAP.

I like Ray D'Arcy's show also; I think mainly because he just talks normally, rather than that hugely annoying semi-American accent that Tallspoon mentioned. Fenton is terrible for this. I had to laugh when he was talking about how he was doing a charity walk through some French vinyards this summer: what a sacrifice!

Ian Dempsey drives me absolutely mad - he just can't stop talking. It's like there is absolutely no filter between his mind and his mouth. I recently switched to whatever morning show that Spin do, which is far better IMO.

Tom Dunne is good, the show moves along quickly and it is a nice break from the usual top 10 hits that are on the other radio stations 24/7 without being too obscure.

No one mentioned Marty King yet?

To be fair I was a bit harsh on Ray Darcy, he does seem to be true to himself and I was unloading all barrels in my first post and Ray was caught in my crossfire!
Tom Dunne is a legend, his show is an absolute corker and what comes across is that he is a genuine music fan and not some egomaniac who loves he sound of his own voice. I have to say that Toms show is as good as any music show I have heard anywhere and I believe that he was even given a credit by Morrissey
on one of his records. I am currently writing a novel and I have named my leading man...Tom Dunne as a tribute. I hope he doesnt mind!

It looks like Ray is catching up on Gerry Ryan pretty quickly:

    Yeah, I love this bit...
"RTE's youth radio station 2FM has suffered another blow in the latest listenership survey, with the gap between 2FM star Gerry Ryan and Today FM rival Ray D'Arcy closing further."

Now, forgive me but 2FM is hardly a "youth" station! Spin is a youth station. 2FM is full of grandad DJs on the microphones playing "the latest hot-and-happening fabtastic records". They remind me of those DJ characters Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse used to do (Smashy and Shiney or whatever):D

OK, I'm 30 ( ) but I can't stand 2FM, it's a wannabe station that seems to have lost its way these last 20 years or so :)

I like most NewsTalk presenters and do think that Tubridy on RTE1 is good, D'arcy too at TodayFM:D Other than that, I don't really want to know.

Dan Hegarty from 2FM is good. I enjoy his night shows. Great music.
