    Playing a $50 stt on PPP. 2nd hand and I'm SB. Folded around to me and I limp in (starting stack 2000 20 40 blinds) with q 4 off suit rainbow. Flop comes down q 4 7. Only myself and big blind in hand. He raises to 80 and I re raise to 240. He goes all in and I call. He turns over 7 7. Turn and river no help and I'm out.

    Was that just bad play on my part ???

    I'd prefer to fold preflop. As it turned out you hit a monster and got unlucky.

    both unlucky and bad play

    either raise pre-flop to steal his BB or else fold (my preference at this stage)

    Dont steal his BB, its the 2nd hand, its only 40 chips, and all it will do is harm your image for stealing later when its imperatic to do so.

    I fold pre flop, as it plays, he often has KQ AQ, so ul.

    Completing the SB is fine here. Unlucky this time.

    I think it's foldable on the flop, it's a close one though. You're ahead of 74 and behind Q7, so that's about 50/50 (although you make a bit with the dead money in the pot).

    The tie-breaker then is how often does he have a set versus how often does he have top pair? I'm fully not sure about this, but it's not a $10 sng you're playing here. A typical $50 sng player will not easily commit their whole stack on the flop with just a pair in an unraised pot on the second hand.

    The other factor is that you're further behind against a set than he is with top pair, so if it was 50/50 whether he had a set or top pair, you should probably fold:

    Board: Qc 7d 4s
    equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
    Hand 1: 27.3737 % 26.36% 01.01% { KQo }
    Hand 2: 72.6263 % 71.62% 01.01% { Q4o }

    equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
    Hand 1: 91.3131 % 91.31% 00.00% { 77 }
    Hand 2: 08.6869 % 08.69% 00.00% { Q4o }
