So does windows leave some sort of file on your hard drive to let it know its the same PC?

    Just a tip

Why not ghost your hd once you have installed windows?

I always install windows and most of the programs i use on a regular basis (i also have a ghost of a fresh instal in the event i need to update loads of drivers/programs) and then make a ghost image to my 2nd hd (i think you can ghost to a different partition as well).
When ever i find windows is running slow or for what ever reason i backup everything i dont want to loose and load up the ghost program to ghost the fresh instal.

It works very well and saves the hasle of going to windows setup everytime, it takes all of 10mins or less for me to ghost my image.
