Passport Issue?

I'm due to fly out to Paris on the 19th of May.

Tickets etc. arrived yesterday and I noticed that there is a bit of blurb about some countries not letting people in unless their passport has at least 3 months validity left on it. I checked mine and its due to expire in just over a month. I was aware of this but assumed that as it was in date I'd be ok. Should I be worried?

just go into the passport office and explain your predicament, also have a completed passport form and photos aswell as you're more than likely gonna have to get a new passport. have your plane tickets with you aswell or some proof of flight and they'll prioritise the passport

    No Idea!:p

But surely because you're traveling within europe you'll be fine...?

Bring your drivers license if you have one too...

If I went up to the passport office how long would I be waiting?

Also at what stage would I be stopped if there was a problem with the passport nearly being out of date. I've a relative that works in customs/security so if this is where it was I'm sure I could make a phone call and get through.

If you were to be stopped, it would most likely be on the French side, not the Irish.

As for the passport office, you'll be there for a few hours most likely. Bring a good book.

I think I'll check with the Travel Agent tomorrow rather then leaving it to chance. Don't fancy waiting in the passport office but if it has to be done theres not much I can do.

Still think its a bit much if they won't accept it though. Whats the point in calling them 10 year passports if they dont last that long.....

TBH talking to the travel agent won't do any good. Give the French Embassy a ring and they'll be able to give you a more definite answer.

That 3 month thing would only apply to non EU/EEA nationals.

Are you sure on this? I checked with the travel agent and they said I'd need a passport that was valid for at least 3 months. The girl that I was talking to had to go of to check so I'm thinking that she wasn't able to find someone to confirm so might just have erred on the side of caution.

I did a bit of searching on the web and the site below seems to indicate that I'd be ok with the passport I currently have(due to expire late June).

That's general travel agent bluff and bluster.

EU/EEA nationals have full right of abode in France and all other EU/EEA countries. You can enter france and never leave if you wish. The only restriction would be that you have a valid passport on leaving, which would be obtained from the Irish embassy in Paris.

I checked with the French Embassy and they said that I can travel on the passport(they were surprised the Travel Agent said I would need it renewed). I'm so glad I dont have spend a day in the passport office....

Moral of the story is don't believe everything travel agents say!
