This is for before and after. I can't wait so much! One question? They can't refuse people at the door, that would be a big pile of Bray.

So far, of the old people I've talked to, it's about 40% positive, counting "I think it was good - I've blacked it all out" in that pile and "Meh, it was alright, I guess" as negative, since that's basically "It was ****, but I don't want to burst your bubble yet". Which is actually a decent rate for apathetic student-y types, so I'm hopeful.

You can't throw 74 euro away to say it was "okay". Fake snow, fake reindeer, fake kids discos (they're a band how Bray is that?) and 7000 drunk people! WOOO!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

They were testing the strobe lights when I left college tonight. I love strobe lights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

I got lost and er...wandered into main stage for a glance - well impressive :)

There's going to be fake snow? Cool.

But, reindeer aren't as cool as alpacas, but then again, i think that the loud music would scare them.

Indeed. As well as screwing up your sense of time they also serve to reassure you that you don't have epilepsy.

Finally starting to look forward to it:D Although I do have my nephew's first communion tomorrow, which should be...interesting.

    and 7000 drunk people! WOOO!

You say that now, I went last year, and will never again go. Unless you're the type that completely wasted off your skull, you'll notice allot of fights, and allot of very drunk people acting the prat, going into the middle of the dance floor, pushing people throwign stuff. Then again I'm not very comfortable around people that drunk and stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

Yeah, the best time I ever had at the Ball was when I got really drunk beforehand and everything seemed shiny and lovely. Last year I was v sober and found that I was actually bored at it.

A general rule for life kids is that if you need to be really drunk to enjoy something then it probably isn't that good.

thats been the general concensise of all my m8's, those of us utterly wasted quite enjoy a good ball..the others thought they were crap.
So the moral of the story is if your not putting away a bottle or 2 of spirits before you go in you'll probally find it crap.........

Anyone hear the thunder? Weather forecast isn't looking that good :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

Yeah I'm in the CSC office and the weather report for Front Square is currently *looks out window* overcast, looks like it might start drizzling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Although just cloudy would be good... keep the temperature up. It's raining here in Cabinteely (I don't want to stand in the rain as a Marshall for 9 hours...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭europerson

There seems to be an awful lot of people working on the Ball this year. I definitely didn't see as many people in lorries and fork-lifts, assembling stages, putting up fencing, etc. last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

I heard that they have an extra 1000 people coming and a new stage area set up in Fellow's Square. Maybe that's the reason?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭gilroyb

Did anyone hear if it sold out or what the final tally of patrons is?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

If last year is anything to go by, they hold off on paying the insurance untill the last minute, and then don't sell anymore tickets. Its why last year was a "sell out" despite selling a few hundred less tickets. It makes sense, as before they where paying insurance based on the number of tickets they had on offer, as opposed the the number sold.

nice one, last minute going to the ball buzz, sount

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

You can usually find someoen at the last minute that doesn't want to go. And I'm not saying they did the same this year, just that thats what happened last year.

I must be the first Boardsie to rise from the aftermath of the Ball. I had a great time, anyway. The rain wasn't bad at all: it just added a sense of murkiness to the proceedings.

    was the music any good?
    any juicy shenanigan related gossip?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭europerson

    was the music any good?
Well, I saw all or part of all the following's acts: The Blizzards, Humanzi, Ocean Colour Scene, The Futureheads, Director, Mundy, Delorentos, G 'n' R tribute band, Pinky's Acoustic Disco, and I passed through some of the dance stuff in the Atrium and the Buttery. I didn't go near Fellows' Square. All in all, I thought the line-up was pretty good and the music excellent. I didn't get to see evryone I thought I'd like to see, but I don't think anyone ever does. Personal favourites out of whom I saw included The Blizzards, Director (never heard them before, but Angry Banana brought me along, and I really enjoyed them), and Delorentos. It's a big question you ask, and I fear this is too small of an answer!
    any juicy shenanigan related gossip?
Well, if you mean among our fellow posters, I met the following Boardsies during the day/night/morning: Angry Banana, b.ie curious, article6, ilovemybrick, agent smith, Awayindahils (I believe I may have a picture of her being very drunk [she told me not to mention it, but, alas, I just have]), Ronny Mitchell, Bogger... probably some more...

Angry Banana and b.ie curoius disappointed me greatly by going home early. They're such lightweights...

I got a taxi back to Halls with article6 and someone else.

I realise there was no gossip there whatsoever. I don't know what to say! I'll wait for others to tell us things, and, then, I'll comment on them.

I saw Republic of Loose, Ocean Colour Scene & Felix da Housecat. Had a great time, and enjoyed being allowed up to the Senior Common Room (they have a latin inscription above the bath in the toilets!)

Who was throwing pigs at OCS? I've been accused of this several times now!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 222 ✭✭Black_Couch

OCean colour scene were really good. Lot of pushing up the front, that got annnoying fairly quickly. Thats really all I managed to see. Was in the dance tent for ages, don't know who was playing cos it all sounds the same really. Lads pissing in glasses was the height of it really. I heard so much stories about what goes on but didn't really see TOO much. Glad I went, not sure it was worth the build up. Rain was annoying. Plus I was lost for half the night from friends. I think that happened to a lot of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭Dev 17

All my friends didn't like the Ball. It was overhyped and too many people. So far I haven't come across anybody who really enjoyed themselves and thats about 20+ people. Also the skipping in the queue was really rude and people just sat back and let people skip them so in a way they were worse than the skippers so most people went in a bad mood. The music was good but I found the atmosphere was crap. Also it was so hard to find my friends. I mean I have been to much bigger events and it was easier to find people than Trinity Ball. Hopefully next year they will sort out some of the problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,297 ✭✭✭Ron DMC

I didn't see much music at all, just a little bit of OCS and Futureheads.

Spent the night mostly bumping into people around the place, chatting for about a minute and then running away to find others.

I also acted like a prick, and became everything I hate about men.

Alchohol is the devil. I'm giving up girls and alchohol. It's too much hassle.

yes yes yes yes yes yes you did, and good. praticularily my friends if you could manage it, but breakfast in marks was fun.

i had an amazing time, but i'm a party kinda person.:p

saw the company well a little, republic of loose, osc and the directors oh i swing danced to some band with crash, and bought a tshirt?? why did i buy a tshirt???

as for europersons accusation that i was drunk..lies lies lies i tell you, or it would be if there wern't so many photos. and i was really really really good till about 3 when, ilovemybrick went and got my vodka, filling a sprite bottle with 75percent+ vodka and a little cranberry and i'm a lightwieght!!! a really serious light weight, so i have very little memory from about a quatre to four onwards.

as for the ball as a whole, yeah the rain was a bit annoying but it is ireland and i didnt see anyone melt yay i love trinity ball now..must just do a little damage control over how many photos there are:rolleyes:

Is there anywhere with info on the history of the Trinity Ball? Like which years it was on? Or who played each year? When did it start?

yeah the pushing in OCS was annoying - eventually i just braced myself and played the nice guy and helped girls get out of the place or picked fella's up.

also Donál, throwing pigs? i have ABSOLUTELY no idea what you're on about. at all. ever.

These are not the pigs you are looking for

also, getting back into residents area is piss easy :)

(people wanting " dammage control" can contact me by usual means)

I got a pig signed by republic of loose! I went up to one of them and asked for an autograph.

I chucked all my spare pigs during Mundy when he mentioned something aobut piggery.

Pigs are great, they liven up every single event I have pigged at.

Saw Blizzards, RoL, OCS, Burlesque Show (!), and other random stuff as I wandered around the place.

    Good night.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭Bartronilic

Messy, murky and overhyped. If i'd been with more friends it would have been 1000 times better but i couldn't find almost all of them. Pre party was great.

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 21,504 Mod ✭✭✭✭Agent Smith

    forgot to say this eariler.

If andy the taxi-driver who picted me up from christ-church this morning at 8am or so, happens to read this, i just want to say thanks for being the BEST TAXI DRIVER EVER!

let me drink (lucasade) in the car, we stopped for bagels, that guy is a legend...

I too had a deadly time - spent most of it wandering around running into random people (including a few boardsies) and having increasingly incoherent conversations, which is always entertaining. Saw parts of Director, Republic of Loose, OCS, G 'n' R and the freak show, plus a few random bands whose names I didn't hear; all but the freak show were damn good. OK, the tickets were a tad pricey and it rained, but it was still a brilliant night.
praticularily my friends if you could manage it,

    ...spoil my fun.
as for europersons accusation that i was drunk..lies lies lies i tell you

Riiiiiight. You were completely sober. And you bought that t-shirt because The Mosquitoes are such a great band.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

I too have a tshirt - its surprisingly comfy. oh well.

I'm not allowed to comment on how drunk hillary is - she told me not to last night :)

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 21,504 Mod ✭✭✭✭Agent Smith

    she never said i couldnt...

when i was at front square, when she first saw me, she ran across front square, the jumped up on me and Hugged me..
