Hey there I have a question for the weight lifters. I was wondering about an allround mix supplement to help augment my weight lifting. I have been going to the gym for the last couple of months and have not been happy with the results I am getting in terms of both mass and strength. I figure my diet is average to good in that I dont eat anything really bad for me like sweets/fast foods ect ever and have the a good few pints the odd time (maybe every two weeks).
about a year ago I lost alot of weight (about 4 stone) and now want to put a bit of muscle I lost while dieting back. I have been on a pretty average whey protein for the past 2 months and have achieved moderate results.
I now want to step up a gear and introduce creatine, and protein and multivitamins to supplement my diet and help increase both muslce mass and strenght. I was told maximsucle cyclone was a good choice, but after looking around on other forums/sites I'm not convinced. I was wondering if any of you guys here on boards could tell me about any supplements you would advise in my position and indeed how to correctly administer these supplements?
    Thanks

You have identified your own problem, to make proper gains, or maximal gains your diet needs to be excellent. POst that, we'll sort it out and then move on to supplements. :D

Allright ill try and give an outline of my diet, on a gym day

    10:00Morning
2 bowls of cereal cheerios/county cruch
    assorted fruit

    12:00snack of fruit

    15:00Lunch
2 Sandwiches in wholemeal bread/bowl of soup with whole meal bread
    lots of fruit

17:00Snack on more fruit/raisins maybe some popcorn

    Go to gym round 18:00
    Proetin shake after workout

20:00 Dinner usually meat and veggies spuds/rice

    23:30Protein shake before I sleep.

Other days(ie non gym) I usually eat the same minus the Protein shakes and i usaully do a 3 mile run.
Alot of my diet is Fruit and what I have put down is what I eat most of the time and does exclude the odd variation in my diet but I do believe I eat well
    most of the time

The simple fact is though that you are very lacking in protein, you haven't given your stats i.e bodyweight or anything but you diet is very, very low in protein for someone looking to add quality mass.

Ideally, most of your meals shout contain protein, carbs and some healthy fats, and you should eat something along these lines 5 to 6 times over the course of the day.

You looking to stay anabolic so that your body is in a constant state of muscle repair.

Could you give me an example of one or two of these meals, and if I am to be eating 5/6 times a day how big should the portions be?

I get most of my stuff from www.bodybuilding.com they are decent price and have everything and everything is explained very well.

I've used maximuscle cyclone and Creatmax8000 before andliked them a loy.

The gains I made using teh creatamax8000 we're very noticable and I only used it for 14 days.

but bodybuilding.com has everything and user guised are top notch

Browsing around that bodybuilding.com site and was looking at their top 10 best selling products, something called NO-Xplode being at number two below a Whey Protein supplement.

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bsn/xplode.html

In short, knowing nothing of the product or its ingredients, it sounds slightly dangerous from the blurb:

"NO widens the blood vessel, which in turn accelerates blood flow to the muscle. This sudden blood surge causes mind blowing pumps and a rapid increase in the overall size and shape of your muscles. And it all happens within minutes! The result? Your veins will stick out like a garden hose"

Anyone know anything about it? I'm looking around for a suitable bodybuilding (as opposed to weight gain) supplement for the summer to pair with swimming/gym work - something called SwoleN seems to be very common with the rugby set around Dublin at the moment for example. Any other suggestions?

NO Xplod is a potent Arginine supplement. Completely safe. N.O stands for Nitric Oxide, which occures naturally in the body, Arginine which is an amino acid increases NO, which in turn widens the blood vessels, which in turn gives an amazing pump. It also keeps you mentally switched on and focussed for a work out. I would recomment BSN's NO Xplod or NutritionX Xplod. Both work well.

You are looking for a body building supplement as oppposed to a weight gain supplement? Both are the same!
For muscles to grow they need calories, high protein and carb intake. This is what weight gainers provide. How you take them and how you train determines whether they will add fat or help muscle growth. But bear this mind, supplemnts are exactly that - supplements - a good diet is first and foremost the most important thing to gaining and keeping muscle gains.

You may be looking for a creatine product as opposed to a weight gainer?

Thanks for the reply. I'm about 6'1 and around 15stone so there's really no need for me to be putting on extra weight, rather just toning up after the leaving cert sedentary lifestyle. My diet is quite good - lots of lean meat, lots of different vegetables, wholemeal bread as opposed to white bread etc.. I'm already reasonably strong and have a good bit of muscle mass so I'm looking to get definition and increase strength - what would you reccomend by ways of supplements to get the best possible result out of gym work?

To start , Plenty of good Protein which you seem to be getting through your lean meats.

You should try a creatine ethyl ester product. There are plenty on the market. I believe CeePro are supposed to be good. Haven't used them myself.

But is creatine not just a compound from red meat? I hear that a lot of people simply don't respond to creo as they have hit their creatine storage limit already from natural sources, or that you can only take so much before you hit a plateau? Would people here recommend taking that No Xplode, it seems to be very highly recommended and I live near that place on Camden street which stocks it (thread below).

Yeh its a bunch of 3 aminos branched together. You'd want to be lashing back some amount of red meat to reach proper saturation. Also creatine ethyl ester promotes better absorbtion by every cell as opposed to monohydrate. Some people don't respond to CM
NO Xplode is a good pre work out supplement, it's not only stocked in Camden street, I've seen it in Work out world recently and Total Nutrtion inCoolmine. Personaly I couldn't get used to the taste of it, but thats just personal preference.
