Stunningly powerful documentary, about an american singer songwriter who has been sufferring for most of his life with bipolar disorder (manic depressive).

In a way, the movie not only explores this character, but suggests a link between the insane and great art. Its a great portrait - recommended viewing (the screen was only half full in the UGC last night - and it was one of the smallest screens - so it may not be shown much longer).

Oh and my girlfriend really really hated it.

    Did she say why?

She disliked the music, his high pitched voice, the grainy tapes being played throughout, and the taped arguements with his mother - it kind of reached a 2 hour crescendo that left her a little on edge.

I also saw and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found myself at the start of the movie wondering what the fuss over this guy was, what with the bad singing and guitar playing but by the end I was converted I must say. Compelling and sad, both the man and his music. Must go seek out some cds now.
