Just ordered SkyHD and got an install date of May 26th, seems fairly near considering people in the UK say they will be waiting 6 weeks from order to installation, anyone else ordered??

Was thinking about it, how much did it set you back in total??

Total was €449 and then €15 extra per month on top of your package.

    Mine is
    Sky World €64.50
    Multiroom €15.00
    SkyHD €15.00
    TOTAL MONTHLY SUBS €94.50

I am stuggling to find the incentive to upgrade to HD, especially with the channels they have on offer!!

But if I hear that it's incredible then it might motivate me a bit so make sure you report back on if its worth it!!

How does the new HD box connect to your HD TV? Is it by HDMI or??

You need HMCP enabled HDMI or much pay TV content will be downsampled to ordinary definition.

Minimum 37" screen close up or a further away larger screen, or it's a waste of money. 48" at 6ft and 60" at 9ft would be ideal HDTV sizes.

Note some HD Ready sets resample to very unsuitable native resolutions.

    I have one of these

If I was to go HD it would be this Winter so at least I'd have the footie to watch in HD cos Sky One and the Movies wouldnt stir me too much!!

It will also give them time to iron out the problems, then again am still having ball ache with Sky+ hanging more often then not when ever I put it into stand-by!!

    Cheers for the reply watty.

Can someone clarify, if you have Sky Sports or Movies, Sky + and multi-room you don't have to pay the extra €15 a month for HD? ie if you are already paying €15 a month extra for multiroom

DigiDec will be paying 15 for Multiroom and 15 for HD so yes you will need to pay for both

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭DigiDec

No you do need to pay the extra €15 a month, this is purely for the HD channels alone, so you pay the €15 for multiroom and €15 for HD channels.

you just pay the €15 purely just to receive a HD signal on what packages you sub to.
So If you just have the Family pack, its only the discovery Nat. Geo. Sky one and BBC (which is free).
If you have any sports, you get a Sports HD and likewise if you have movies you get Movies HD.
I was considering getting it but I have a feeling after September it will get cheaper.
Plus the world cup rush will be over.

That set is 1024 x 768 native pixels. It has to rescale EVERYTHING other than PC XGA resolution.

    HD from Sky box is either 1440 x 720p, rescaled if 1920 x 1080i, OR 1920 x 1080i / 1440x 720p depending on transmission content.

I don't think it is confirmed yet if ROI gets the BBC HD channel on a Sky HD box in HD.

    :o That's big bucks! You're Sky's ideal customer, I reckon. :)

Considering you're an early adopter, and are willing to pay them that kinda money every month, you'd think they mighta given you some concession on the HDbox.

When's your installation party? We'll bring the beer.

That's Sky for you I suppose, if you are willing to pay the monhtly subs they will gladly take it from you.

As for the party well it's on in my place all day Friday 26th May, you bring the beer I'll supply the entertainment !!!!

Sky do get a bit of stick from a lot of people but I have to say that anytime I have had to ring them they have always been very helpful and able to do my requests instantly, suppose I was just lucky maybe.

When I rang to order HD the operator was more clued in on what he was talking about and he seemed to be an older member of staff that had had extra training.

What's with these wait times and "installations" for customers who already have a digibox and dish ready to go?.

Why can't you just go and pick up your Sky HD box and connect the coaxial lead yourself?.

The HD hasn't been released yet, first install date either here or in the UK is May 22nd, its not on general sale yet either but I'm sure it won't be long before you can just buy one and set up yourself.

DIGIDEC and SAULTAM, I really do wish you all the best with your hd subscriptions, personally I could not justify the price at the moment but I hope you get many many hours of pleasure watching your high quality television. In a way I am a bit jealous and am trying to think of excuses (other than financial) to justify why I would not subscribe at present but I live in hope that people like yourselves subscribing will eventually lead to lower prices so that I can join in in the near future.

I think they're making HD installs a priority. I read on DS that someone ordered Sky+ and got an install date of late July lol.
