power over ethernet

    is anyone aware of anyy suppliers in the cork area who have power over ethernet kits for access point and switches. or are there any diy solutions available.

    DIY can be dodgy , you need to get 48v DC in some cases over pins 4 and 5 (pair) and 7 and 8 (pair) in other cases the voltage can be lower.

    needs a bit of research to match with the gear you already have and make sure the pins are right and nowt catches fire.

    This is not recommended as iv seen WRAP boards gradually get screwed by this. recommend splitting the cable to a DC plug to power any boards.

    which will sense if its PoE gear at the far end
    and one of these if you want to split it out before the ethernet socket on teh switch for whatever reason

    while there is a POE standard called 802.3af there are 'variants' and flavours' which is why the research is necessary.
