brake question

    HI,

I was taking the front end of my bike apart in anticipation of replacing the fork seals. I swung the caliper off the front disc and I thought I spotted a piston that was stuck.

I pumped the front brake a few times and realised the piston was working fine but now the pads are too close to each other to put back onto the disc.

So my question is: how do I relive the pressure in the pistons so they 'relax'. Is the only way to bleed the whole brake system? Thanks.

Get a screwdriver in there an try an push them back. Crude but effective.

Or a vice-grips with a bit of cardboard so you don't damage your caliper.

be careful if you are using a screw driver that you dont damage the pistons

best thing i found is a bike g-clamp & an old brake pad

Thanks guys, There's always someonw on boards who knows what to do :). I wrapped the jaws of some vice grips in old bits of towel and carefully worked them back in.
