    Hello,

Im currently in Australia with 3 other friends and we have been here 7 weeks in total and we have been seeing the sights and going out alot. Now, for the past 2 weeks we have been looking for accomodation and jobs, but with no luck. We are due to be in Australia until the end of September, but the jobs/accomodation front aint looking good.

    Im undecided whether to

    1. plan a 6/7 week trip up the East Coast and spend whatever money ive left and spending my money on doing things i.e skydiving, bungee, great barrier reef scuba dive etc.

    or

    2. wait around and look for jobs and accomodation, hope everything works out, and if it dosent then watch my money run out and maybe not get the chance to do the stuff up the east coast

Also, i have friends coming over in September, so was thinking of maybe going home and then coming back out with them on a 3 month holiday visa!!

    Thanks

    LouthGuy

Hardly a personal issue! Take it to the travel/holidays forum!

Edit: Doesnt look like much of a decision to me. Stay, work, and squander my cash, or go bungee jumping and scuba diving!

Get out of sydney, if that's where you are, and look for a job in melbourne.

If you're heading up the East Coast check out Cairns, bit of a party town and a great laugh. Loadsa hostels there will take you on for work inlc pay + food + accomodation + cheap beer! :D

I worked in a place called the Serpent Hostel for 2mths last year and it was great craic! :) Met loadsa cool peeps & chicks and was pretty much on the batter every day... I found it hard to get work in Sydney and Melbourne so I just gave up after a while and partied til my cash ran out! :D

Yep. Sydney is a drain on any funds and work is difficult to get.

Melbourne is far better for work and tbh the hostels are fantastic as accommodation so if you're looking for a house to rent I wouldn't bother. Hostels are cheaper and better for backpackers in terms of social life and finding work.

You haven't been there for very long and work isn't going to fall into your lap. I was there for over 2 months before I started working. Join up with some recruitment agencies.

I would definitely head up the east coast too. If you head there with an attitude of "i'm just going to have fun and blow my money" you'll ensure that your stay in Australia is a short one. Remember that you can only do the working-holiday visa once. Persoanlly I made sure I stayed there as long as possible.

I went to Australia with 4 other girls and 2 of them went home after a few months. They completely regret the wasted opportunity.

It's up to you at the end of the day and from the way you worded your post it appears that you have decided on going home. Kudos if that is what you want.

I was in Sydney with Giles and I got jobs sorted no problem ! Travelling up the east coast however, is something that EVERYONE has to do. Best road-trip ever :)
