Les Paul into a Marshall, easy peasy classic rock sound.

What gear do you have now and where do you feel your tone is different?

I'm playin a strat into a zoom fire. What i'm really lookin for is that sort of flangy sound he has.

It's more of a humbucker sound, rather than a strat single coil. His tone has a nice bit of mids in it. If you want a flanger, you can get behringer pedals for 20 quid from audiocity.ie. I have one myself, they're nothing amazing but it does flange.

Thin Lizzy sound has always been known for its twin Les Pauls/Marshall combo. Pretty standard as the doc says. I seem to remember gorham playing a goldtop though with either mini humbuckers or p90's
