Could be a firmware issue and the drive does not support that DL media you acquired.

    Update the firmware to the latest and see if that works the change log actually mentions;
It is improved reading quality of DVD dual layer disc.

Download VSO Inspector as well and go to the media tab and see who the Media ID belongs to.

hi thanks for the reply 8t8.

I downloaded the driver for my writer, followed the intructions but now things got worse.
it actually wont read anything because when i put a disc in the tray opens

I hope you mean firmware not driver and rebooted the computer after doing the firmware update.

Does it only eject the DVD+R DL or does it do it to all kinds of discs ?

Try this remove the drive from the device manager and let windows re-install it. Put in a blank DVD-R or DVD+R and see if you can burn it afterwords by making a data disk with Nero.

What sort of motherboard have you got & do you have it's SATA driver installed ?

Also download Samsung's Live Update program & install it, run it and it will check for firmware updates for the DVD writer if it finds a newer firmware or says you are already current flash the update anyway.

ye it was the firmware i dunno what happened, cos i placed the drive into another pc and downloaded tha samsung prog that gets the firwmare itself and now it went back to work again .
but it still wont burn into my disc, even if when i put it in it does recognize it and vso inspector gives me all the info about it.

my mobo is an asus Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, but i have it connected with a normal ide cable

I starting to think it could be just something wrong with the image that im trying to burn

Well I'd try burning a normal data disk to the DVD+R DL first to rule out whether your image file is the source of the problem.

It could be the firmware doesn't support the media in order to burn a DVD the DVD writers firmware must contain the media's ID ands a write strategy for it.

If it doesn't then its not going to burn it which sounds like your problem.

It would a good idea to remove the NVIDIA IDE drivers if you have them installed they have a habit of messing with DVDRW drivers. Bring up the properties of the IDE controller and use the roll back feature to go back to the standard dual channel IDE controller.

You can tell if you have them installed as it should say something like NVIDIA PATA nForce controller, if they are already are the dual channel IDE controller driver then you don't need to roll the driver back.

i think its the image wrong cos just now i burned other data on the same dl disc.
the only way i can use that image is mounting it on a virtual drive i guess
