Yes, on the 28th of May, the insurance on my pride and joy will have expired and I won't be renewing. The bike will be sold on, and I will be bikeless for at least a year, maybe more. :(

I'm devastated. I got a new job close to home, which requires me to have my car available, so the bike is purely a toy now. Then I got my renewal notice. I took her out last weekend for the first time in two months and realised how much I missed it. I rang up CN, but they couldn't do anything for me. Lowering the value, declaring it as "not used for commuting", saying I'll do only 1000 miles/year all had no effect because I'm one year too young.

So, next weekend (I'm away this weekend), I'm going to get her serviced, give her a wash, and then get as much use out of her as possible before my insurance is up.

Anyone want to buy an '03 Varadero?

    a varadero you say?

    what size engine?
(and how much would the insurance cost for a 22yo girl?)

    125

I couldn't tell you what the insurance would be, but it would probably be significantly lower than mine (actually you'd probably get something similar to what I link to above, if you have no NCB and a provisional licence. Damn women :))

Sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me when I had my TDR. It'll be great when you get back biking though - I stopped when i was 23 going 24. I'm 25 now and my insurance is 390 euro on a bros (classic). Insurance for a 125 was about 400 odd euro and that was only with a single year NCB.

Hi Seamus, I hear ye bro'. I had some starting trouble with my bike recently and was using the bus for 2 weeks: added 2 hours a day to my relatively short commute. Was nearly getting the push bike out again, but there's only one shower in our new building and the journey is 12 miles each way (I did used to cycle this!). Not having the bike was awful!
But it's back in order now, it was a simple fix.

But back to you: what about a classic bike? You can get FC insurance for approx 300-400 yoyos. I don't know exactly as I haven't phoned up recently for a quote. My renewal is during the summer; which will be interesting. I would consider a classic for longer term use, if the premiums keep going up. The bike is more than a way to get to work: it keeps me sane because the commute is the shortest possible.

You have to be 25 or over, 1 or more years ncb, full licence and bike must be 15 years old or older.

As Baz says, you need to be 25 for classic insurance. I tried that route too! :(

Chief---, give me a wave when you're out-and-about. I'm always near the Texaco on the N4, and I suspect you will be too :p

Saw in your link to insurance thread that you were 24 with full licence and 4 yrs NCB. Don't know when your birthday is, but perhaps a classic bike could be your birthday present to yourself...
