    hi
looking for all your running expertise there lads!
I have been runnning since January started off doing about 4k 3 times a week and slowly building up, the only thing that is really stopping me from getting really fit is bloody shin splints...I keep getting them.
I hadnt run for a week and on wed I went again and I could only run for literally 5 steps the pain was so bad.
I have done all the research.. tried all the new stretches for the tendons, did the icing the muscles after each run (even if I wasnt in pain)
I bought new top of the range asics and got the proper shock absorbers

Last week I went for a long run on Monday and it was fine - no pain at all
went again on wednesday and there was a bit of discomfort after I finished, but I iced and stretched ( I always warm up before stretching) and it was fine, then went on wed and it nearly killed me !

I dont know what is causing it, I have normal arches ( i did a test that I got from runner's world) its wrecking my head, I really enjoy exercising like this and this injury is really holding me back
I even stopped for a full five weeks to see if that would stop the injury occuring for good, but after about a week I was back in the same situation

is there anything you can recommend?
    much appreciated

Yes orthotics and practice stretching shins and piriformus (google)

Especially practice kneeling on the floor and sit in between your heels - if this is not possible use mats/cushions etc until you can.

Luckily I haven't had shin splints, but I'm suffering from plantar fasciitis.

I'm in the same boat, I enjoy running, and do all the icing, stretches etc but I'm being held back by the injury. I'm now in my second week of rest, as suggested by my chiropodist, and hoping that it will get better in two weeks so I can go back to running.

I've been researching the injury type on the interenet and I stumbled upon this web site.. It looks a bit like the "hello everybody" doctor from Simpsons, his teachings are the exact opposite to what every runner will tell you, but there's a lot of people who swear by him and his running method.

I will give it a go after I finish the rest period, I find it an interesting concept and worth giving it a shot.. it's the "injury free running" that got me interested.
