MP3 player with Removable Storage

I'm looking to buy an MP3 player, that is based on removable storage, i.e., you require no drivers to use it, so therefore can be used on any computer at any time.

I'm aware most, nay, all MP3 players up to 1gb are classed as removable storage, but when you look for a bigger capacity, i.e. 20gb, most I’ve looked up require drivers and software supplied by the manufacturer

So, can anyone here recommend an MP3 player that is no less than 6 gbs in capacity that requires no drivers, and is removable storage?

that's a hard one because when you go into the multiple gigs of storage, they use disk drives... which require drivers because they have their own operating systems on board...

Creative and iRiver are two different machines. Creative players do and always have required drivers and special (and horrible) software.

As far as I know the newer iRivers require drivers/software too, but if you can get your hands on an iRiver H1** or H3** you'll be laughing (** = 20 or 40, relating to the amount of gb). One of the best players out there and turns up as a hard drive in any system you plug into... just drag and drop those files.

Also have a look at iAudio and Archos players. I think most of them work as removable storage too.

I have an iRiver H320 20Gb, now discontinued but still available. Its works as removable storage. Just plug in via USB and it appears as a drive.

They are now selling the H10 20Gb, I think, but I dont know much about it.

I think some if not all of the Creative players act in the same way.

    Hope thats useful.....

The iAudio player was mentioned to me recently also as being very robust this way, though they are very expensive players. The various manuals are available for download on the Cowon home site so you could double check that way...?

The iRiver H10 (6gigs or 20gigs) needs drivers initially but you can download fixes that turns it into a UMS (universal mass storage) device ie. it turns up in my computer and to put music/whatever on it you drag and drop folders etc.

However there is one complication - if you add/delete music from the player, the only way to play it is using a tiny little program called easy h10. This updates the track listings on the player. Now this can be easily carried around in a folder on the h10 so it ain't a problem.

To use it as a removable hard disk I just connect it and bobs your uncle.

If you can afford it I'd snap that up in a second. Have one myself.. really great player, and does the removable drive thing no bother.
