Mike will be away for this so I'll be TD-ing this one. It would be good to see a good turnout for the first one! It will be a regular tournie and seems like a good location!

    DeV.

Bumpity bumpity. Looks like a few Drogheda regulars coming down for this. Can't see anyone from Dublin winning TBH.

T'was a good game. I made the final table in bad condition lets just say!. Gholimoli went just before the final table. Juan Pablo was still in when i left.
Good mix of players from one extreme to the other.

Good to meet ya Rounders123. Where was Gholi sitting? Nice tourney Mike, here's hoping for more runners in future. Any chance of throwing in 150/300? Pat Murphy is Spud I take it

Yeah Pat is the man that tagged you as 'so good' his 7 5 off could be ahead :)

At the moment I need to keep the levels the same, I did add the 400/800 level back in last night as there were only 29. Once the hotel is confident there will be no hassle at these I can stretch out the finish time and add more levels.

You too JP. Yeah i really enjoyed the tournie too. Plenty of value there!. You got sucked in against your will in that unfortunate 3 way hand but the runner runner flush that followed was met with some relief i'd say!. I was going to say hello at the first break but you legged it straight away to the john so waited till the end!. Gholimoli was the young Iranian guy you might have seen with Mike at break. The two of them are always together, they love each other i think!. Maybe its just the cigarettes that make them so close!.
Gholimoli was on the next table to us. If the dealers seat is no.1 he was on 7 or 8 at the head of the table.

Yeah the room is great, we can hold up to 200 players in there and they are having a big conference centre built so we could hold an even bigger festival at some point.

So far our relationship with them is good but they are rightly worried about the garda station opposite them so we kind of need to show we can keep things well controlled before we can go much past 1pm.

The manager seemed happy enough with last night so long may it continue and grow. When Spud gets back to Drogheda and tells them how soft the field was I expect more of them will make the short trip down to the ATM in the future.

If I am not mistaken,Mike is putting it up to the Dublin players....Of course the country boys are playing ok sure they get plenty of practice seems as they live in 4 TV channel land and I would not be surprised if some of them have only gotten electricity in the last 5/10 years.Sure this Celtic tiger thing is just in Dublin right..?

    The Regency €100+15 Freezeout
I had a 'career month'(i love this Americans term!) online so this along with a hankering for a bit of live poker i decided to treat myself for my efforts with a live game. Mikes 'Green Joker Poker' was staging its first event at this venue and i must say it went off very well and there was a pretty good atmosphere despite a medium field. I felt it was one of the best live outings i put in for a while.Racing post form reads 'Jumped well raced in mid div, improved, over reached at the pond fence, eased!.

As i drove in i seen part of the hotel was under renovation and a sign directed me to park at the back. There seemed nowhere to go at the back so i drove through electric gates into an apartments village and down an undergroung carpark i assumed the hotel controlled and understood what they meant by 'at the back'. As i parked and walked back out through the gates i looked back and noticed some residents on their way out key in a number and the gates close after them. ****!. First mistake but i'd have to worry about this later!.

I reg'd and took my seat alongside another player as we waited for the rest. We got talking and he was good bloke and seemed new to poker. I picked up he never played online or in a card room, just a few pub type tournaments he said and as we talked on about poker i had a fair idea of what what to expect. He went on to become the best example of a calling station ive ever seen live. We'll call him AAAK(Any ace any king) and he'd be sitting on my immediate right. Throughout the nite you could count on the fingers of one hand how many times he didnt limp in. You could also count on the fingers of a fingerless hand how many times he raised pre-flop. Suits me!. It wasnt his thing his thing was limp calling and as one player later said aloud 'your putting on an exhibition on how to play poker whats your name?'! which he took as a genuine compliment and reached across to shake the guys hand which embarrased me for some reason!. So he limped with any two and called a raise with any ace or any king.

So the table soon filled up and i identified by recognition and table talk who i could expect to be usefull. To my left was a guy who came 4th in last sundays big Drogheda game and 'Junior' from Drogheda was there to along with another solid GJP and fitz regular with greyish/blackish hair and shmig. There was Bob Battersby i recognised from Antesup rogues gallery! and also Juan Pablo who i recognised from a poker forum pic he posted and who was briefly at my 3rd table when i made my fitz debut way back then. The stacks were 5k and had 29 runners.

So some hands i remembered. Well i never got to play a single hand in the first 2 levels in fact only twice in the first 2 levels i got a hand that had a card better than a 10. It really didnt matter so much though there was plenty of time and i was in the same chip position as some that had lost a medium pot. Junior made a bad bet before he got moved. He bet 1000 on the river into our AAAK friend with second pair who called with a better pair. Maybe he thought his pair was good but if he thought he could get him off the hand he was badly mistaken.

A quite terrible player on our table judging by his hands at showdown who had won some big pots was moved aswell. This guy was a gift, it was almost palpable that some of us were saying "oh no leave him here!".As one player put it "He was just waiting to give away his chips".

I eventually played my first hand and seen a flop amonsgt others with J10 on the button. Flop came K 10 6. Checked by all turn another K checked again. River 10 and i bet 500 but no takers. I flipped over my hand and collected all the limpers chips.

Ive implimented a little bit of speech play into my game recently. I think mostly its because im becoming more comfortable with playing live and secondly its to inform people when im in a pot im in it for a reason i.e beware im in the hand!. As if!. So straight away i merrily told the table in case they hadnt noticed that the last hand was the first hand i played so far and i hoped they recognised my rock like status!.

So the very next im UTG and say "Right lets test this rock like image i must have built up by now and see if i get some respect?!" So I raised it to 800. Bob Battersby 3 to my left came up against young punks like me before in his time and obviously wasnt buying my speechplay and called as did AAAK in his bb. The flop came king high and AAAK checked and i fired about 1400. I had KQh. Bob took his own good time swirling his cards deep in thought and appeared to be contimplating a reraise thinking i was full of it or could be moved off. I believe he folded because he feared AAAK being the calling station he was would call with anything. So bob folded but AAAK called with no problem at all. Turn was a blank and AAAK checked and i fired close to a pot sized bet which he actually thought about for 2 seconds this time before calling. Lovely. This guys range was so vast i had him down as calling these bets with ace high. River was another blank he checked and i went all in. He eventually folded but i was confident he had no pair here. He would have insta called with King rag. Believe me.

Playing tight at the start but losing a pot or two circumstances after betting out found Juan Pablo against his will calling all in last in a 3 way all in with TP 10 or J kicker on an 8 high flop. He was in bad condition against the other two but runner runnered a flush and mounted a good comeback!.

A hand came up where i got to see a flop in my blind with 5 7 in an unraised pot with about 4 others. The flop came 8 9 K and i checked hoping everyone else would so the turn could provide a 6!. This is exactly how it hapenned!. When the 6 came i was loving it but betted out knowing with 4 others still there one of them would surely have a hand by now. So when i raised i couldnt have heard more sweeter words than "How much you got left there" by the Drogheda guy on my left. I took my hands away from my chips and leaned back in a way that said 'im not verbally going to answer you, you can see for yourself'. He said after another minute or so 'I go all in'. On hearing this i put my head in my hands to make out he was giving me a big headache. Of course my actions were to help make it easier for someone else to come along for the ride!. There were 3 others and there was a king out there. I sat there like i was very unhappy about the all in bet but when the the last of them folded i was in like Flynn with my chips. He had 2 pair and called for the board to pair but luckily a 3 came and i doubled up and was now flying.

A while passed and AAAK despite earlier winning several big pots from the clutches of defeat his stack had fallen from grace recently due to more god awful calling. One prime example of his earlier glory was him calling bets on every street with pocket 3's and catching a 3 on the river before just flat calling another bet. A hand soon followed between us two.
    The pond fence.
By now i had 17k and had won just about every pot i played which wasnt many pots and hadnt once limp folded pre flop. I was mostly coming in raising anyway. When i got 99 first to act i raised it up x4 and AAAK in the bb calls. Surprise surprise!. The flop looked good for me 5-10-5 and he checked. I bet about the pot and he called. Quite frankly this call didnt concern me in the slightest against this player and i know im ahead and am just funking for no A or K!. Turn K!. He instantly bet his last 900. Of course i needed to make this crying call despite it being obvious his king arrived. He had K4 and i missed the river and lost quite a pot as the table trashed like parana fish in shallow water at the prospect of this freshly fattened calf. Omg omg omg i thought!. It was at this point i mentioned eariler that one guy put it to him that he was putting on a poker masterclass!. As smart as this thinly disguised mocking is i wish i people wouldnt say it at the table. Be a man and crow about it behind his back at break time like everyone else!.

Earlier i seen Gholi needing a tray to move his chips to a new table but when i met him at the break it seemed his fortunes had taken a turn for the worse. I moaned to him about going great guns before describing my 99 hand with the calling station like any self respecting poker player would!. This hand just before break really hampered me. I lost nearly 1/3rd of my stack there and the blinds were racing up aswell. It would be a real good structure if they put in the 150/300 level so this jump from 100/200 to 200/400 made things a little tougher. But i believe this could change when the venue management are happy poker tournaments can take place peacefully without incident and finishing times can then be extended.

So its break and i needed to get my car out from behind the iron wall. I lurked around for a bit before seeing a good oppertunity. Two males and a female were getting back in on foot and i caught up with them and asked them to show me mercy and explained what hapenned. They obliged by hanging on at the gate for me while i ran on and got my car......

........After the break nothing much hapenned. I stole some blinds to stay alive where possible and avoided trouble hands but it was clear i was on the slow slide and the other table had the vast majority of chips. Ironically the only player that had a big stack at our table was AAAK!. And the big CL at the other table was the gift player who got moved earlier!.

It was down to 2 shorthanded tables when i got moved to the other table. I noticed a couple of obscene stacks and realised with just 4 paid it was moving time. First hand in i got KJ and with blinds 400/800 and first to speak i raised it to 2400. I had 7k behind. The bb called and the flop 10 Q 4. The bb pushed instantly. Sigh!. Ok i was behind for sure but ive got a draw and a king for more outs if he's got that Q. I had him covered by a 500 chip. It was a big decision but the size of some of those stacks and the fact i had extra outs with my overcard was the deciding factors. Win this and i was back to respectability. I called. The guy flipped KQ so my K was dead. Turn and river didnt hit me and i was done for. One guy said unlucky but i said "not really i got what i deserved".

The final table formed directly after this hand and i was in quickly for my last 500 with J6c and out just as quick!.

I really enjoyed it. The field size will soon increase the venue is perfect its a well run game and dealers are of a real good standard.
