Sarah Kavanagh is British?

There's an article on BBC's motorsport site today with David Coulthard talking about possible women drivers in F1. In the last paragraph they refer to Sarah Kavanagh as being British. I did a search on google just to check that I was right about her being Irish and while it seems that I am, I came across a second, earlier article on BBC's site in which she is also refered to as being British. Here's the links to both articles:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/4971108.stm

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/3151309.stm

I wonder if she is racing under a British licence and maybe that's why they are saying she is British but that would be a bit like saying Sonia O'Sullivan is Australian.

Any thoughts or opinions on this? I sent BBC an email about it so I'll see if anything happens on that front.

Sarah Kavanagh and F1? Is this a joke? I know she did the BOSS series, but come on!

She was born in the UK IIRC, so maybe thats why they class her as brittish. Ive no idea what licence she is on.

I know it's a bit of a joke but I don't like to see the Brits claiming our sportsmen and women as their own when they're not (no matter how good or bad they might be).

Yeah I just noticed that on her website but I also see her refering to herself as the "First Lady of Irish Motorsport". It seems that she can be Irish or British when it suits her. Roughly 50/50 Irish/British on google upon closer examination.

I'm not gonna argue with that :D

Still, she looks hot on her website:

I guess that's why the sponsors like her.

Yeah but you can't do F1 in Ireland so she had to go abroad to further her (unrealistic) ambitions. ;)

Seriously though, how long has she be saying that she wants to get into F1 and since when has the BOSS championship been a stepping stone to get there?

saw her a few years back in mondello driving an old jordan. She looked distinctly mediocre and was having trouble beating some unknown character in an even older (by a few years) ferrari. I think the only reason she gets attenton is because she's a reasonably attractive chick. Put simply, if she was a guy she wouldn't even register on the map.

Bah, Rosemary Smith is the first Irish lady in motorsport!

Have to hand it to SK on the PR front though, top marks for effort.

She raced Formula Opel here a good while back (mid 90's maybe?) and in one race got lapped, and subsequently spun. I dont remember her in karting at all, although I think she raced in the UK and NI.

Fair play to her for giving it a go, I mean she got further in Motorsport that I did and all, but in fairness, Irene Brennan pwn's SK and we dont see her bidding for an F1 gig.

I used to know a guy who raced in that series at the same time she did. He diplomatically described her as being "a liability on the track".

John Kane (not Jonny Kane, a more successful driver you are probably very familiar with).

John wasn't a front runner in the series and as far as I can remember the racing for him was a hobby, not anything very serious though he might tell you different!
