    Spent the last 3 hours trying to get my computer working.
    After the boot screen with windows XP the screen stayed blank.

    No matter what I did ,it wouldn't work.

    By chance I unhooked my memory card reader and hey presto.

    It was something got to do with antivirus software ,so I presume it was looking for a memory card that was there before the last shutdown or something.

    Anyways just thought it good to share ,just in case

    Same things happened to me with an externall USB HDD I had left on... Took me over an hour to figure it out...
    Felt like a right plonker when I discovered what the problem was. Never messed so much with BIOS settings in my whole life!

    thats cos its reading the card as a boot disk.. i think.. like if u had a floppy disk in..

    if it was trying to boot from the reader, whywould the xp logo come up?

    I've seen the problem with USB peripherals in general. It happened with my old optical USB mouse and it happens now with my webcam.

    Maybe move this thread to the Windows forum?

    It was just something I thought the more photographer type might like to keep in mind.

    I wouldn't say everyone using cameras knows about Bios batteries.
