Can you permanently remove MSN contacts?

This is a pet peeve for me. Most people wouldn't use this unless they use MSN from several locations - if you delete a contact on one machine, its only deleted there. You then go home and its on your contact list there, go back to work and as it was added again at home, said contact is on your list.

Well, not work/home in this case, but sveral machines and OS' at home.

Is there a way to permanently delete them?

Are you using the official MSN client? What version? Can't say I have ever noticed this behaviour myself...

I mostly use Gaim, with MSN occasionally.

I use MSN messenger and if I delete a contact at any location it is gone for all locations. Sounds like GAIM isn't sticking to the MSN protocol fully. Why not sign in to MSN using MSN Messenger, delete the contacts you want, then sign back into GAIM. See if that works.

I've tried that, the contacts just re-appear in Gaim.

Can you add/remove contacts from GAIM while offline?

I use the official MSN myself too. If I delete on one PC it's gone on all.

Sounds like GAIM is locally caching your contacts list, rather than pulling them off the server. This is the linux version? Are you using the latest version of GAIM?

EDIT: GAIM's bug tracker has this bug submitted twice, the earliest being almost a year ago. Both are still open and unassaigned. As suspected, its a local cache of the contacts list seems to be the cause.
