Avast! Problem

    right, here's the deal, upgraded, today, from Avast! anti-virus to Zone Alert. However, while my intentions were to run Zone Alarm simply for the firewall, and keep Avast! for the anti-virus protection, they don't get along with each other. So I tried to get rid of Avast! and make Zone Alarm do both, but I am unable to find an uninstall thing for Avast! I tried to throw the thing in bin manually, but even after I got Avast! to stop checking for viruses it was still running and there is no off switch, so I get an error when I try to put it in the bin *sigh*. is there any way of ridding your pc of Avast!?

    Try going into MSCONFIG.EXE and the Startup tab and remove Avast! from there for a start. It might get messy after trying to remove it manually :( I had to go through the registry to delete all matches for AVG when i removed it.

    Try
    Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove programs

    and uninstall it there

    I assume you got rid of it from Add/Remove Programs? Failing that, if you do a quick search (or check the free software sticky in here), I'm sure there's a bunch of programs that'll remove all traces of whatever you want it to.
    In fact I know there is, because I've used it before. If I can find it, I'll throw up the link.

    Off topic: I was mostly attracted to this thread due to the Avast! bit..thought you were being all pirate-ish. :o

    Personally your far better off sticking with Avast than using Zonealarms built in crappy AV software.

    As was mentioned use add/remove in the control panel and you will see the Avast entry.

    If you want to make Zonealarm cooperate with other software double click the Zonealarm tray icon and when its interface comes up click the anti-virus monitoring tab and set it to off ZA is so crap it doesn’t even properly detect Avast. If you actually installed their AV software well you'll have to disable that first.

    FYI you’re perfectly safe with Avast, Windows Firewall & a NAT based router you would only "need" Zonealarm if you want to manage out-bound connections to the internet from your computer.
