Looking for a graduate Software Enginnering job in dublin

Hi just wanted to pick a few brains.

In the past few weeks I have been looking to get a junior software engineering position in Dublin. I have a masters in Software Engineering(1.1) since last october. Prior to this I did a degree in computer science. I have quite a bit of (non-commercial) java experience as well as the Sun Certified Java Programmer.

All of the above seems to be completely worthless. From looking about there seems to be no demand on any of the job websites for anyone with less than 2 years commercial programming experience. I know at this time of year that I have missed all of the graduate programs, although I think that I would prefer to work for a small or medium sized irish firm than a multinational in any case. One problem with this is that I am currently based down the west so it is hard to target such companies (especially as I'm not even sure who they are) .

Of course I have been CV spamming on irishjobs and monster for jobs requiring more experience but the lack of replies is a little frustrating. I suppose what I am mainly wondering is if I am looking in the right places or if I just need to be a bit more paitent. Although I am thinking that it might be best to move up anyway and temp or something an the meantime.

Ok rant over, Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

try bidding for jobs on www.scriptlance.com and www.rentacoder.com to build up real world experience to add to your CV.

Other than that keep plugging away with the CV's.

A few weeks? Hardly long is it? If you are not getting call backs then you need to work on your CV.

Companies are hiring graduates again - we did here - they are however taking their time about it and not hiring just anyone unlike the heady days of the .com KABOOM.

Anyway with a 1.1 and the cert in your favour you just need to give it time. Speculative applications as well as applications for a formal position can't hurt.

    Best of luck.
