Hey I was wondering could anyone help me . My laptop wont boot up because of a problem with the ntdll.dll file. I have tried safe mode , normal mode and boot from last known best settings but nothing seems to work and the machine just restarts the process over and over. Any ideas please? I havnt got a clue what to do.
    Thanks

hope this is the right forum

have you the recovery CD's that came with the laptop? They might help to repair the missing dll?
or, save this onto a floppy disk, start the machine in DOS mode and save it into your system folder.
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ntdll (now, I just found that file by googling it, I have NO idea how safe/unsafe it is)

can anyone tell me how to save a file from a floppy into the system folder through DOS?

    c:/systemroot/system32/ntdll.dll

    I think its:

at the A:\ in DOS that shows the floppy disk active, then type COPY FILENAME.EXE(space)c:\LOCATION. I think thats it :)

If you have the CD, you're better off copying the original ntdll.dll from the CD

It should be in the i386\system32\ directory.

    Type the following two commands:
    rename c:\windows\system32\ntdll.dll c:\windows\system32\ntdll.bak
    (saves your curren one) then
    copy d:\i386\system32\ntdll.dll c:\windows\system32\

the only time i got that error was when i had cut the power in the middle of a reinstall when only half the files needed to run xp had been copied

an error in ntdll.dll translates as "your operating sytem is fooked". best just reinstall windows. if you fix ntdll.dll you'll most likely be presented with another error. and when you fix that you'll get another error and so on until you shoot yourself

if you don't want to renistall you could try to repair the operating system. its one of the options when you're on the reinstall menu (when you restart with the windows cd in). i've seen some cds that don't have the option though
