Train travel within Germany

    a mate of mine is goin to the world cup next month and is staying in Gelsenkirchen.

    He's looking at travelling to munich and Hamburg for 2 games on the 19th and 21st.

    the german rail site is a nightmare can anyone shed some light on how to go about this

    I have always found the DB website to be excellent.

    Click on "Internat. Guests" at the top for an English version.

    those are going to be two very long and quite expensive trips.

    Gelsenkirchen to Munich is about 6-7 hours each way and Gelsenkirchen to Hamburg is about 3 hours each way.

    The trains in Germany are normally excellent with time and travelling around the cities is easy to understand.

    Any specific problems being encountered on the bahn.de site? As John R says, it's normally excellent...
