Buy a cat, and when you lose a big pot, kick it.

i dont think this will achive anything .
what you should do is get a donkey and train it to kick you in the ass every time you lose a big pot.

ok i think i can help if your talking about online play. You to stop getting emotional, but its hard because poker is an emotional game,Get up and walk away if possible.

    1.get an A4 pad

2.write down every single hand you play eg your hole cards, the villians hole, the board, the size of the pot, the outcome win, lose, draw etc .

3.only play with starting hands from pair of 10s up.

4.never bluff if you cant afford to unless you can.

5.after each session write down how much you won or loss and file it away.

dont know if tats any help or not, but it stops me from getting bored or emotional it helps me treat online poker as a money making machine.

Just a few basic things i think you might be doing listed below. Just stop doing them.

Calling other players raises with middle or bottom pair. i.e you have K8 and the flop is Q-8-5

Calling other players bets on the flop turn and river with for example AK when theres no ace or king on the board.

Chasing straight draws and flush draws if a player is making good size bets.

Minimum raising or raising too small with AK-AQ or middle pairs.

    Limping in with Ax.

Limping with ok hands out of position.

    Bluffing when theres no need.

Paying players off with your top 2 pair when theres 3 or 4 to a flush on the board and heavy betting going on. Same when theres an obvious straight out there.

what you should do is play some home game with friends and play a differnet type of game you never know you might pick up a few things when your there... :)

I dunno if thats the best idea! I played a cash home game for the first time ever last night. we ususally play stt's. 5 euro was the min buy-in, blinds at 0.10/0.25. With only 5 of us playing one guy left 110 down! back to the ol' stt's next time i guess

I think you should continue to play as you are. I need people like you to fund my Single Malt Whisky collection purchases.

BTW, where do you play on-line? What's your nick?

I dont think people can improve on this much. Either youve got it or dont especially after a certain age.

I think Hotspur is into this stuff and will probably come on with about 30 paragraphs basically saying im wrong. But i dunno if youve got emotional control and lack of discipline problems i dont think you can improve it to a good degree.

go out and buy a book on basic meditation technique. 20 mins practice a day and I guarantee after a week you'll find your game has improved. Better still if you're in dublin try beginners course here www.dublinbuddhistcentre.org

Any book youd recommened or where I would get it? Would practicing off a site such as http://www.meditationcenter.com/center/index.html be helpful or should I definitely get a book?

Looks like I'll be able to afford that rare Islay Port Ellen I've wanted for ages soon. Yum. Maybe some Ladyburn too.

The fact that you were "Tilted" enough by my post to actually PM your on-line details is an example of unmeasured response.

Knowing the difference between Impulse and Instinct is an important part of Poker for me, and I'm sure for many others.

Sometimes, when I think I'm tilting at bit, I use the "seven breaths" technique. If you are wondering if a play is the correct one or not, take seven breaths before acting. Do not take longer, or shorter than that. Take as long as you want to measure up the situation, but make the decision in a set time.

If i'm planning a long session of poker I usually go into pc world and buy about 10 mice.
Then when I recieve a bad beat I usually rip the mouse from the usb port and smash it off the nearest wall.
Then reload with a new mouse and you will feel like a new man.

It seriously works and with what money I have wasted on headphones and mice I have saved on the tables.

No, the fact I Pmed you my details is an example of my gentlemanly nature. I, too want you to complete your whiskey collection. It was completely "measured"
