Just found this article I thought it might be of interest to some.

It's not always malware: How to fix the top 10 Internet Explorer issues

Malware, the perennial enemy of the Web surfer, has received a lot of publicity and analysis over the past 12 months and rightly so, but this attention has, in some ways, proven to be a two-edged sword.

It is easy to forget that issues with Internet Explorer are not always caused by malware, especially when the support groups are full of cries for help from owners of infected machines. Sometimes, when malware fixes don't work, people are at a loss as to what to do next. I have even seen examples where people have been advised to reformat their machines unnecessarily, but I have reached the thread too late to say "No, don't do that yet."

I would go as far in saying how to Fix Internet Explorer in 3 easy steps.

    1. Delete Internet Explorer from harddrive
    2. Install FireFox
    3. Happy days

I hope my step to step insutruction gives you a more enjoyable internet experience.

True - most of the issues with Internet Explorer are not down to other pieces of software but down to the fact that Internet Explorer itself is a badly designed program, Microsoft's own complacency leaving the browser undeveloped for years, and Microsoft's determination to integrate a badly written web browser directly into an essentially insecure operating system purely to try forcefully see off rival browser applications.

The best solution to the problems of Internet Explorer is simply to stop using it altogether and get a decent standalone browser like Firefox or Opera.

"It is easy to forget that issues with Internet Explorer are not always caused by malware", to mention nothing of the fact that the reason we have so much spyware/mallware is because of the security holes in IE in the first place. I'm sure MS would love for everyone to believe that the problems are all user error or spyware so as to distract from the real issues. As said by art and BadCharlie, get a propper browser, at least until MS get their act together. Even then, I doubt I'll ever switch back.

    1. Download and install firefox and opera
    2. IE Connections LAN set proxy to junk address so it can't be used.
    3. If you are a tweaker use firefox, if you prefer things that work out of the box use opera

The OP's original list does not include my #1 pet hate of IE, when windowsupdate doesn't work and you have to go around the houses trying to sort it out.

Oh and the almost certainty that your computer could be taken over just by visiting by a specially crafted web site. ( maybe Tue 11th might be the first time this year there isn't a fix for it, maybe.. )

Yes IE is quite simply the biggest piece of Crap going. Windows update screwed up my IE which then led to other problems, after a month of battling I formatted & re-installed all this was caused by Internet Explorer. I hardly ever use it now only for the odd site that Firefox cannot display properly for eg. this Site where it display a ü instead of the normal Tick (which I cannot find in Character Map only on Windings and it shows up here as a ü too ) I posted it a while back and it displayed properly.

in this post I posted the Check symbol and it is now showing up as a question mark. Anybody have any ideas why Firefox is doing this, IE is also displaying the same thing!

I'd guess some kind of font issue. ✔✔✔✔✔✔✔ works fine for me anyway.
