Vegas in Two weeks time + WPT

I'm off to Vegas for three weeks and hoping to qualify for the WPT Mandalay Bay 10k buy in. I'll try first on PPP this weekend of course but fairly confident that one way or another I will play in it.

I'm also going to play in at least one of the Belaggio 1k buy in Tourneys.

However amazingly enough I have never played poker in Vegas before... Last time I went I was into Blackjack and didn't even know what a full house was. And that was three years ago!!!

    How times have changed.

So it seems silly not use the combined experiences of the boardsters to get a heads up on the action.

So question one is where the best cash games are.

For that I'm looking at mid-low limit anything up to $4 - $8 but also good $1 - $2 as Mrs Dim is obviously going to have a go. Want a mix - not too soft - not too strong.

    Tourneys -
Already stated that I will play in at least one Bellagio event... any other recommends at lower buy ins?

    Sats -
My intention - assuming I don't qualify on PPP - is to play some live sats. I heard that the sats for the WSOP were fairly soft... What can I expect? According to Cardplayer they are running sats from 25th May... but all the sats are a minimum $1k and that includes Super Sats... But I have an inkling that in the states a super sat is a sit n go and a sat is an Mtt. Anyone enlighten me?

I'm staying in Henderson close to the Green Valley Ranch - Anyone played there?

Anyone want a piece of me for the usual rate of a pacte of Tayto and a bottle of coke - you're welcome :D

    All advice appreciated.

And also good luck to all boardsters at Citywest as obviously I won't be there.

best of luck with this Len.
to the best of my knowledge sat is either a single table tourney or a tourney with on ticket and a super sat is most likely an MTT with more than one ticket up for grabs.
not too sure about this though.

Thanks Ehsan.... Haven't spoken to you since easter... I hope you took down that tourney in the SE after I was cruelly knocked out in fourth place :D

It was a good antidote to our Open experience.

I didnt play any sats in LA but i was watching Don O'Dea in a 1table stt and the structure by the end was minging, basically all-in poker. If there is a $200 mtt satelitte id play it but again most tournies in Vegas dont have player friendly structures from my limited experiences. I heard the Bellagio tournies have decent structures, why not play them as a sateliite to the WPT and use any cash you win to buy-in? This gives you the option of the cash as well as the seat wheras an official WPT sateliite would be non-refundable and you couldnt take the cash.

I wouldnt go spending huge sums to qualify, when the WPT gets down to the money stages it is often crapshoot stage(especially the televised final if your lucky enough to make it) and isnt good value for money. Also the play at my tables in WPT was of a very high standard and there didnt seem to be much deadmoney floating about.

Not trying to put you off, just giving you my opinion. Dont get me wrong though it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you if ya do play.
    Besta luck with it,
    Will

Alrite Len, I was over in Vegas in November, and as I was staying in the Luxor (next to Madalay Bay) I played in the Luxor and Excalibur. Seemed to be alot of limit poker really. 2/4 to 5/10 in both poker rooms. Excalibur had a soft 1/3 ($200) buy in.

I'm going back in August so make sure you post a wee report of where you played etc. :)

    Goodluck

Ive been hearing good things about Caesers for both decent small tournies and all sorts of cash games - think there was a good article in the current Bluff magazine.

I would assume that the Mandalay Bay will be good for small cash games with tourists coming by to have a look at the WPT and getting into a small game but probably tougher at the higher limits with the more serious players.

Best of luck Len. Check out the reviews and trip reports at http://www.allvegaspoker.com/. As Oscar said Ceasers is getting good reports for it's tourneys. The MGM sounds like a lively spot too.
