Sound problem

A problem has arisen in the last few months with the sound from my comp. Basically what happens is that if i play a game and have some music running (iTunes) at some point the volume becomes so low that I have to turn the speakers all the way up until i hear the hiss and distortion of the speakers and still the sound is barely audible. The only solution i've found is to switch off and boot up again. Though usually, I’m blasted out of it because I forget to turn the speakers/headphones down.

The obvious solution here is that i shouldn't run music when i'm playing games, which I’ve stopped doing. NOw, however, the same problem arises when I'm flicking between songs in iTines - one second normal volume then it is barely audible when turned up full.

I don't have a sound card, just the onboard sound from my mobo (below)

    Any solutions??
