I was going to try and get people to go to that, want to throw rotten cabbages at mary horney over certain bannings and general hating her, what's the odds on her trying it on with mr. hook??

Thinking of going if I manage to get my ass in gear and do some study today. I likes Hooky, and I am a debate nerd....it makes sense.

year there is quite a line up of important people to abuse.......... and medsoc will be highly embarassed if nobody turns up....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭Hermione*

I might go ... I really like Hooky, and my experiences of the health service in Ireland have made me really annoyed and angry about how it operates. Also, Harney has refused on at least one occassion to go Hook's radio show so it should be interesting to see him chair a debate she's participating in. :D

aww... im in work. i love hookey :(

(notice that im not using capitals anymore... that's cos my left index finger is still infected, so it hurts to hold down shift :( *weeps*)

wouldn't you hold down the shift key with your pinky?

    That's how i type anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

    Spot the one finger typest:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

    lol :p

Nah, I'm usually a fast typist, and I touch type ;)

I generally use my pinky or ring finger to hold down shift, but then I have to use my middle finger or index to press the key to be capitalised. so that hurts now :(

(got a bit confused, thought i used my index to press down shift, cos i couldn't demonstrate :/)

Might go to it but I'm all the way out in ET at the mo so don't know if I'll be able to drag my lazy self out there. Should be a really good debate though, kudos to MedSoc for getting that line-up.

Donal O' Connor, who was the Med Soc auditor last year and just finished his finals, will be speaking. There'll be loads of time at the end for people who want to ask questions.

Should be a great event. Here's what we sent out to everyone:

“Doctors’ new working hours: A better health service or medical emergency?” will feature a panel of high profile guests, including:

An Tanaiste Mary Harney TD, Minister for Health and Children
Dr Mick Molloy, NCHD Chair, Irish Medical Organisation
Dr John Hillery, Chairperson, Irish Medical Council
Mr Stephen McMahon, Chairperson, Irish Patients’ Organisation
Professor John Crown, Consultant Oncologist, St Vincent’s University Hospital
Dr Philip Nolan, Registrar, University College Dublin

Special Guest Chair: Mr George Hook, Presenter, Newstalk 106FM

Hope to see you there :)

How were the unlikely couple of Hooky and Mary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

They didn't really get the chance to address each other, pity!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭elmyra

    Humbert: "Is Mary Harney married?"

    Me/Scraggs: "Yeah"

Humbert: "It's true, there is somebody for everyone"

We really should have a quotes thread.

My mum claims that Mary Harney isnt half as fat in real life as she looks on the tv. I dont believe her, but does anyone who went want to clarify for me? She's still a fat mess, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

She's fat but Irish fat not texas fat, in other words you walk past her without feeling the need to call greenpeace:p

Heya guys.....well as usual panda and her mates came late so I was sitting up at the back on the other side from you guys. There was loadsa meds and docs there that I hadnt seen in yonks.....was a right old reunion....so while I was trying to go from my side of the lecture theatre to the boardies side to say hello ,I got stopped by about a million people and when I got over there you were gone!
Dont worry I had a glass wine for each of you at the wine reception:) ah no seriously though they sorta kept the wine reception hush hush so I think it was just for meds.....sorry guys!!

So all in all the debate was intresting.A lot of questions unanswered though.Mary Harney had no real constructive answers. I had a really good question to ask at the end about female medics but donal brennan was the last question so I didnt get the chance:( Some of the questions were a bit silly though and hed no relevance to the debate at hand which was annoying for the people who wanted to ask real medical related questions.

Hookie was as usual legendary. Was a really intresting mix of speakers and thoroughly enjoyable-wahoo go medsoc!

Hardly a shock is it? Thank christ I didn't know about this debate or I would gone along and layed into her (no, not in a Firespinner type of way! ;) ) over her inept performance as minister for health. Grrr she makes me angry!
