Decentralization

    Hi there,
Looking for advice if anyone can offer it.
I've heard a lot about the whole decentralization thing, and how large numbers of people are not interested in the move to the more rural areas. One of the government offices, the office of public works in moving one of its offices to Trim in County Meath. I have heard that less thatn 10% of its workers have agreed to move, (subject to correction) and I believe that the move should be happening quite soon.

I personally would love to work for the OPW in their new location, and have been scouring the government employment websites for positions that may be open there, but I have yet to see any positions come available. Do you think that they will be looking for massive amounts of people when the move takes place and they have no employees, or are they advertising for new staff somewhere I havent seen? I am not sure what way this is going to work, so if anyone had any ideas on how to go about applying for work in a body such as this, I'd be grateful.
    ta.

You should probably look up the definition of a scab first. In the union sense.

any civil service job will be advertised via publicjobs.ie. You can't lose your job in the civil service so no-one with half a brain would ever call you a scab since you will just be taking a position where someone else doesn't want to work. They will be working somewhere else, not out on a picket line..

Regular civil service grade campains for clerical officers, executive officers are run about every 2 years and huge panels formed. They were held last year so there are already people lined up willing to fill these vacancies, so if these are what you want you must wait till 2007 to apply. This includes a very competitive apitude test, interview etc.
If you specialise in some field such as property evaluation etc that the OPW may want then these are advertised on Publicjobs.ie as they arise.
