    Ireland 193/9

Gloucestershire currently 138/8 - in trouble.

A win definitely on the cards here. Credit to the lads if they pull it off, especially after what looks like poor batting.

    Report from the BBC
Ireland bowled five-time Trophy winners Gloucestershire out 47 runs short in Bristol to record their first ever win over county opposition away from home.

Pakistani guest star Shahid Afridi and off-spinner Kyle McCallan took six wickets between them for nine runs in 12 overs to complete the victory.

Ireland's total of 193-9 looked too little after James Averis took 4-17.

They recovered from 23-3 at one point, with Peter Gillespie (41no) and Dave Langford-Smith (34) putting on 61.

It was only Ireland's third win over county opposition - the others were against Middlesex in 1997 and Surrey in 2004.

Coach Adrian Birrell described Afridi's spell of eight overs, six maidens, four runs and three wickets as "The greatest one-day bowling I have ever seen".

"This is a great confidence boost for us," the South African added.

"We lost our way in the batting after a good stand between Shahid and Eoin Morgan but then Dave Langford-Smith and Peter Gillespie batted with heart.

"The spirit of the team never dropped but Afridi and Saqlain Mushtaq have electrified the atmosphere."

Skipper Jon Lewis blamed a poor batting display for Gloucestershire's failure to reach a modest target.

"We bowled well on a pretty good pitch and I felt we had restricted Ireland to a reasonable total," he said.

"After a good start, we didn't bat as cleverly as we might have done. Afridi was always going to be difficult to get away on a slow wicket.

"We will have a meeting on Sunday night to discuss what went wrong."

Coach Adrian Birrell described Afridi's spell of eight overs, six maidens, four runs and three wickets as "The greatest one-day bowling I have ever seen". wow :D

I'm not too sure about singing "Irelands Call" at the end  Its bad enough having to listen to it at the rugger.

but an excellent result. hopefully they will carry it over to tomorrows match. they even got a mention on the RTE news this evening.
