    Ok basicaly i have a male friend who is a boxer- however recently he put up a few pounds and it took him into the heavyweight section- he needs to lose 10 pounds before he can be allowed back into the lightweights.

    He told me the other night that he is now wrapping clingfilm around his whole body under his clothes in hope that the weight will be sweated out of him- i think hes gone insane- but im worried- isint it dangerous- wouldnt his body be compleatly overheated and he would be dehydrated.

    He'll need to lose at least 75 lbs to go from heavyweight to lightweight.:D

    And yes, he is dehydrating himself. As soon as he drinks or eats the weight will return.

    Probably light-heavy weight she means. His best thing to do is LIT.

    How does he expect to lose weight?

    Sweat = water.

    But he's replacing the water he sweats by drinking water.

    All he's doing is flushing salts out of his body.

    Pepper, it's surprising that your friend has nobody to advise him on this since boxers are well known weight cutters. He needs to realise the difference between losing weight and cutting weight.

    (My definitions here):
    Losing weight is decreasing the weight you walk around at day to day. Ideally this is done through fat loss (obviously depending on the sport, the time involved and the amount of weight to be lost).

    Cutting weight is usually used in sports with weigh-ins the day before the event (boxing , wrestling, MMA etc). It involves dehydrating yourself to TEMPORARILY reduce your weight, get on the scales, then rehydrate yourself before competing.

    In terms of cutting weight, 10 pounds for a heavyweight (to cut to light heavyweight) is nothing - but it's only a temporary measure and not a good idea unless he knows what he's doing, which he clearly doesn't.

    Unless he has a fight in week, tell him to sort his diet and and put in a few more miles on the road.

    I agree, Pepper, be honest. If you are going to ask a silly question, do (we don't flame here as much as the big fitness boards). But certainly dont make things up to see our reaction or to see what we will say, thats just trolling.

    I agree that was totally obvious especially with your numerous other threads in desperation of losing weight. Just keep up with it and don't use any stupid methods as any quick fix like this will be harmful.
