I'm afraid mark_neary@hotmail.com will now be ruthlessly spammed. I remember slagging Colm, asking him did he buy a bargain keyboard with no "@"!

As regards the spamming thing all the mails get redirected to a mail server running linux with Deepfreeze so spam on!
If you interested try here http://www.faronics.com/.
This is not an advert thing. It just a cool bit of software.

thanks but a lot of the info on the web is outta date.Been to the Bujinkan dojo before. It was run from St Josephs comun center but the last time i checked it was not there anymore(the class not the center!).
Tried kenpo a few years ago and it was not me.I looking for a trad okin karate system preferable shotokan or wado ryu. I would even travel gorey or enniscorthy.
There a brilliant jiu jitsu school down here. They also have lads training in mma there.Great atmosphere.Info here http://www.eastcoastjujutsu.com/
I cant remember the contact for the whites hotel mma.But if you ring the hotel direct they might know. The instructor is an ex karate dude.Did it for twenty years and got pissed off with it.Then he came across stuff by steve morris and went to train with him.Now he teaches mma.Havent been down there recentily but was there when it started first. It very tough but well worth it.
the steve morris stuff is here.....http://www.morrisnoholdsbarred.co.uk/

Here's a map featuring all the USKF Shotokan clubs, If any of them are reachable I would Highly recommend going if your interested in shotokan.

    http://uskf.org/Default.aspx?tabid=13199

It's probably Ireland's most active, organised and internationally affiliated (JKA And The KUGB) Shotokan association. Cheap classes (5 euro) non profit organisation, All the money you pay for class's pays for the rent of the hall's, the regular international trips abroad (2-3 a year), The special instructors who give courses and the tournements. None of the Instructors make money from this, it's all for the love of Karate.

They teach traditional Shotokan, But with a far more direct, Modern and stand up approach to fighting.

Thanks for that but still no info on that club in glynn/barntown. Someone outthere must know something about.I know there is a club in gorey too but it impossible to get info on it from either the net/goldenpages/directory inquiries or smoke signals.
Guess i will have to create my own web page with info for the south east at this rate!!
There a few in waterford as well but i would have to change jobs to get to it on my days off!!Oh well...

    Try checking this
    Its a martial arts directory

    http://www.blackbelt.ie/Karate.htm

Its an old site and it needs a bit of updating but its all i could find.

Thanks but been there.I work in IT so web searching is not my problem.I think the lack of local web info is just the way it is with most trad ma in ireland.
Most senior ma dudes that set up clubs, in the trad arts anyway, are usually in mid 30's.If you have dedicated your life to mastering an art and holding down a job and family then there is not much time to mastering IT skills.
Of the dozen or so clubs in the area I would say maybe one third have a web prescence and some of those are linked to articles in local papers.
I got most of my present info from talking to the local breadman!!
Plan B then is to just drive around local halls and community centers and asking directly.Of course I have had to buy a car and get insurance so this could all be the most expensive ma class in history!!:p

The back page is AKAI kickboxing.

But yea, your pointing him in the right direction with 'Irish Fighter' magazine.

And of course its much bigger and better these days too.

Loaded the missus and child into the fiesty fiesta and went Glynn hunting. It reall rally ireland territory up there. Not good on the nerves when you only been driving for a week.Tracked down the local parish hall and some dude on the street confirmed witnessing strange people in white costumes going there twice weekly but not much else.So it either the shotokan club or the klu klux clan.
Going to head down there on tuesday and thursday at about 7 as this the norm time for ma classes and skulk around the car park.Might bring a "no I am not a pedo" sign as it real "deep south" country.
Will try to put a website up by the end of the month with all the clubs I have found in the area.

Hi Elly. Just wondering if you set up that Shotokan Club after? I'd be interested in one in the Gorey/Arklow area

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭mr1percent

also quite interested in this. In wexford too and know the original poster. Mark eventually went down the mma route I am afraid and there is no geting him back!! Is there a club up and running yet?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭mr1percent

Okay....for anyone interested cant get in touch with the mysterious Elly. I have mailed every Shotokan club in Bruxelles on the slim chance of getting a reply. I had to use google translate to send the messages so hopefully they get the gist although for all I know I may just have insulted them and damaged Ireland-Bruxelles relations for years to come.
Will post back here if I hear anything.

man those shotokan guys are pretty punctual when it comes to the auld interweb mail thing.
Both Denis Toussaint, Webmaster of the TSK (member of WSKF Japan) and David Royle, uskf, got back to me asap to say they had no contact information in relation to elly.mae.
Guess that just leaves the town cryer, ohh well..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭mr1percent

Due to the fine weather the town cryer must be on holidays. Guess that just leaves me!!
Jennifer Madden, USKFI Administrations Officer, has also responded that she has no contact or contact info on or from Elly.
Guess I will be parking this thread for another couple of years which is a shame.

I am also a couple of years late applying to this thread.
I'm a lonely 1st kyu in shotokan with no club to train in. Anyone out there interested in getting in touch?
