FTA satellite & HDTV

I'm hoping to move to a new house soon, and I'm planning to get a FTA satellite system with 3 LNBs for watching 28E, 19E & 13E. I would expect to mostly watch the main English and Spanish language channels (BBC, ITV, TVE, Cubavisión), and also Eurosport (in German).

I'm wondering would it be worthwhile getting a HD satellite receiver and a HD telly, or should I save several hundred euro and wait a few years until HDTV is more established? Does anyone have any views one way or the other on the best way to go at this point?

Purely my opinion, but I think you'd be better off waiting a while. Prices will come down. The number of services will go up. At the moment it's an "early converters" market and they always pay a premium for being the first on the block with the new technology.

I saw the ad for HD on Sky the other day and it looked so good on my CRT that I realised I didn't need HD - I bet they weren't expecting that !!

If you have all 6 muxes on Freeview - not much. Men&Motors is still on FTA satellite and theres about 200 other channels of which I'd only even tune in ten or so - RealityTV, Rapture, Extreme Sports TV, Chart Show, The Vault.

As goes non-28E English services - theres very few. Some rare English subtitled content on German TV, particularly MTV and VIVA; BBC World, Sky News International, CNBC, Raceworld TV, Arirang. And music video stations that don't have language as a barrier.
