    Hi everyone:

As I mentioned in other threads, I'm building a new computer for the first time. Unfortunately I'm hainvg a couple of problems finalising it.

1: The computer sometimes turns itself off 2 seconds after I turn it on. Now it does it constantly. What could be causing that? Could something not be being cooled/powered properly?

2: I'm having trouble with the hard drives. I bought a 300 MB Serial ATA 2 HD for the new computer, and had intended to carry over one of the hard drives from my existing PC, in 80 GB IDE. Both are Maxtor DiamondMaxes.

Basically, installing Windows XP on the new SATA2 drive was complicated by the setup programs' inability to recognise SATA drives, there were 4 different sets of drivers on the mobos CD each of which would have to be put on seperate floppies to see which one was the right one.

So I decided to go ahead and take my 80GB IDE Maxtor Diamondmax 9, install it as a primary master, format the system partition and install Windows to that. All worked fine until Windows Setup went to restart the computer, and now the bootup freezes when its time to try boot from the hard drive. Changing the boot sequence confirms this. I would have pulled the IDE drive and tryed again with the SATA drivers but can't try anything else now due to problem 1 above.

Are there any pitfalls to mixing SATA and IDE Hard drives that I might have fallen into?

Thanks in advance for any help.
