I wanted one years ago when they came out. I spoke to the Gardai about it and their official stance on it is that they are illegal to use on a public road or path.

if it can do more than 15mph, then it's a vehicle. So no path or bike path for it - has to be the road.

you'll need lights, brakes (!), insurance, tax, licence, helmet - oh, and this is the killer - somewhere to put the number plate !!

Dead right though, I know a guy who did himself some serious damage on one when it hit a kerb.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Don't know if you're looking at petrol or electric, but...

I'll be selling my EVT 4000e shortly, full-sized electric scooter/moped
    (modern style, not vespa style)

in black, good condition, taxed Oct 06, 30 mph, average of €0.15 's worth of electricity per charge gives you 20 miles range, recent back tyre & pads all-round, no maintenance required *ever* (save for tyres and brake pads, obviously  ). Road tax €30 per year, currently insured with AON TPFT for €230 on a driver's license.

Not really a 'go-ped' I know , but you just never know, depending what you want to use it for (e.g. commutes etc.) ;)

I was in Planet Fun ans asked if you needed a licence for one (knowing full well that you did). They said "Of course you don't" and laughed! I left, not buying anything from bull****ters! My mate bought a 125 another time. He paid the price on the bike, not a penny off, and the scabby cnuts wouldn't give him €20 off the €100 helmet the wanted! I certainly wouldnt buy anything off them.
