Meeting bands after gigs...

I've never actually tried this before, but I'm going to see Anathema (supporting HIM) tomorrow in the Ambassador and I'm wondering if there's any chance of meeting the support band after the gig... I've heard people talking about stuff like that, but I wasn't really bothered trying until now as there'll hardly be many Anathema fans going.. Does anyone know what one has to do in order to talk to them.. Wait around outside or something? At some gigs I've been to, some of the bands would say where they're going to be afterwards, but I'm just making sure..

    Anyway, thanks in advance..

Ive met Anathema before in Fibbers the day before they played a gig. I guess there is a good chance they may head in there again afterwards.

They are very approachable and real nice chaps by the way and Im sure theyd appreciate if you buy them a pint too considering they are all broke these days. :-(

Generally though if a band wants to meet its fans they will go somewhere nearby after or hang around outside. If they dont then you're limited to possibly catching them heading to their tour bus.

    Didya meet them?

I was on the way out of a restaurant as the gig let out, and was tempted to pop into Fibbers, but then the hoards of people walking to towards the area, most of em lookin like underages turned me off it.

if they're the support band, and they're sound enough you can likely catch them hanging around at the merch stand/bar area watching the main band perform.

ive chatted to loads of bands this way, both in the ambassador, tbmc, whelans & the village

You'll generally spot support bands more than headlining bands in the crowd, esp at smaller gigs. I've met a fair heap of bands at a fair heap of gigs. Bought pints, smoked a bowl, got pics with loads and said "hello" and "good gig!" to I dunno how many more. :) That said I tend to go to the smaller kinds of gigs like TBMC, Village etc so it's always a lot easier to meet bands.

Yeah, I've heard a lot about Fibbers being the place to go after gigs, but I've never been there before.. Are they strict about ID? I think it's somewhere along Grafton St.. On one of the side-streets, but I dunno where.. Anyway, I guess it's just plain luck :P Thanks anyway.

Well, if its a rock gig, and Fibbers is a rock/metal venue, its probably one of the more relavent choices. If a dank and smelly one.

It's the last turn right when you walk down O Connell street towards the ambassador. Its the big black pub with two ugly bouncers outside it. They are strict on id. They sometimes ask me for it even though a few of em know my name...

Hmmm.. I'll note that for future referrence.. It turned out ok though, I got to hang out with them for a bit, as Danny stood around during HIM's set and everyone except Les stood outside the entrance after the gig. They are indeed pretty awesome guys, but there were a lot of people just looking for autographs of famous people... I was standing around talking to the bassist, and some guy even asked me >_> I was going to, but I felt bad defiling his nice page of Anathema signatures with my ugly name and writing..

Anyway, I guess this thread has served its purpose. Thanks to all who responded.

you'll always meet bands in the crowd, a good while back i met Simon Neil from biffy clyro checking out Oceansize (support) when biffy clyro were touring here.

Bands tend to go for pints before and/or after gigs. Meeting them is just a question of being in the right pub at the right time really.
