If you know of any Car Dismantlers who stock older cars (e.g. pre-1990) please post their details here -

    Reid Car Dismantlers
    Suncroft
    Co. Kildare

I visited this yard a few years ago and they had lots of older car about the place - they almost seem to specialise in older cars!

Examples of what I saw included - Corolla K20's & K30's, Ford Anglia 105E, Kadett C Coupe, Morris Minor, Nissan Sentra, Mazda 323 (late 70's models), etc etc.

I plan to call to them soon to see if they are still in business. Will post update soon.

I called to Reid Dismantlers today but the gate was locked.(My father noticed that it has been closed the few times he passed in the last year.)
Perhaps the owner has a new day job and only opens it in the evening or on the weekends??

I believe the local co. council may have been 'on the case' re this yard due to the fact that it is located on/beside bogland.(possible pollution?)

I have a phone number somewhere, so I will investigate further.

I spotted the following through the gate (along with dozens more cars I couldn't see clearly) -

    Triumph Dolomite
    1960's Mercedes saloon
Renault 4 van (Ex-An Post) .....which leads me to another thread !

I remember a big scrapyard in Kilcock Co. Kildare (near the canal) Is it still there? I saw a Fiat 500 perched up on a stack of cars there once but that's many years ago now.

Yeah, I recall the yard you are thinking of. I will be in Kilcock this evening so I will see if I can find out a bit more about it!

    Hi Silvera,

Where exactly is Reids in Suncroft? I can't remember seeing anywhere like that when passing thought the village but I'd be keen to drop in...

That one in Kilkock is very big and v well organised. I haven't been there in a couple of years and can't say what type of cars he has but it seems to be the yard of choice for a lot of people on the west side of the city.

The yard at Red cow has been mentioned a few times on here for stocking older stuff or at least having an old yoke. He told me he took in a Mustang a few years back and sold it on for a couple of grand complete so luckily he probably knows F all about old yank prices:D
Actually I was thinking of going up to him for a set of seat belts for the car, I know cortina belts will fit but will Sierra or Mondeo do the job in a 72 Mustang.

    dubtom,
Are thinking of the dismatlers a few miles outside Kilcock - area known as 'Laragh'?

    Spit62500,
I will PM directions to you.

Probably Silvera, left after the bridge and follow the road out about a mile or so, not sure what the area is called.

I'm pretty sure the one at Kilcock has gone - he sold the land for a packet a year or so ago. There is another one close by can't recall where, probably the one your talking about, went there years ago, very well organised - if someone know's it please post directions or phone number. If anyone see's a Datsun 240Z or 260Z please let me know.

    Cheers, Dean

I live in Kilcock heres the deal...
There was two dismantlers in Kilcock the one next to the canal nearest the train station has closed down and that was the better one for older cars. The other one is further out on the same road and is a well organised but well overpriced yard. I've stopped going to them cos of their rip off prices.I now go to the yard on the old N4 between Kilcock and Enfield.Theres also a yard near batterstown/maynooth.None of these are particularly good for older cars though.

This thread kinda developed from another thread can someone point me in the right direction?
The previous thread mentioned a scrapyard on the N11 near the beehive pub that I'd like some directions to.

    Ah found it....
hoarding of classics in back gardens
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054918297

On the n11 after the Beehive pub heading south between The Tap and Lil' Doyles I think, in on the right as you climb the hill there's always a nice selection in various states of repair.

    I think I'll have a looksee.

Is there a Mini and Hillman Minx in that yard ?
I passed a house with these in the yard along the N11.

Leahys outside Roscommon town - has lots of 80's stuff and a shed full of parts and panels. Used to be very busy but the owner seems to have lost interest in updating his stock.

Six Crosses garage in Kilmurray McMahon Co. Clare (head for Kilrush) has a couple of older cars, Last time I was there there was a MK1 Capri Automatic on its roof and a couple of granadas, he also had a R9, R11 and a load more aswell as the modern stuff. Used to have alot more, but the crusher is taking the older stuff at the mo.
Anyone know where there are the following scrapped(other than in my garden!) R9, R6 (late chrome bumper model) And Series 2 XJ6?

Just at the edge of limerick there's a yard called fentons, it's at the start of the old road to patrickswell. They're not always the most enthusiastic in there or most energetic, but while i was there looking for some granada mk3 parts, the long haired guy that works there was happy enought to let me wander around and check out what was there, pretty much all old stuff out the back. Some useable (for parts that is) 70s and 80s mercs, a mk3 granada, Opel omega, some old BMW 5 series cars of E34 and older vintage, Old small 80s jap stuff, nissan bluebirds, a 1litre suzuki jeep, a wreck of a early 80s celica, datsun sunny van, etc etc.

Also of note is a green VW Pickup. Of THe aircooled variety

There is a yard, or there was one, in either Newbridge or Kildare town, not sure, it was on the dublin road. There was a meat factory across from it.
This yard was full of old CIE dublin buses but had other cars like Mercedes Pontoon, Austin Sheerline hearse and a mixture of 60s and 70s cars.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 408 ✭✭Spit62500

The meat factory is in Kildare - I'll have a look for anything opposite but I think that it may have been cleared out at this stage - I think it would have caught my eye.

I remember that yard. It had a few single decker buses in it. I've looked out for it every time I've been thru Kildare over the last 10 years or so and I'm 99% certain it's gone.

It might be worth putting an add in Farmers Journal, you never know whats lying up in fields & barns around the country that has escaped the scrappage deals of the 90ies!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,033 ✭✭✭Silvera

That yard in Kildare was owned by an ecentric old guy who died some years ago. I was told that Johnny Stone car dismantlers (near The Curragh) now owned the yard. However I see that there is a for sale/development sign outside it now so it may well have been comepletely cleared by now.

The yard in Kildare town is gone. Johnny Stone has another yard out near Suncroft, the stuff may have gone out there. I remember he had loads of old 70's & 80's stuff out there.

I know it's a sin and all to resurrect threads that are old, but does anyone have a number for the scrapyard that's between Enfield & Kilcock (the one of the old N4 road). I'm in need of parts for my Micra and many places in Dublin now won't stock cars that old.

I would think it would still be easy enough to pick up dead micras still.Im sure someone will sort you.

Was looking for parts for a Micra a few weeks back myself. Got some of it in kilcock but nothing major just badges and a wiper motor, have to say they are very expensive and not into bargaining, probably because they are so busy. Got nothing for the year I was looking for in the one on the Enfield road but they do have a few Micras. Ended up getting a lot of stuff in a place in Coolock. Got the info off this site http://www.partfinder.ie/ very handy site but not all dismantlers are on it.

Thanks for that. I ended up going to a Nissan dealer and getting the parts I wanted.

Theres Junkyard Jewels in the north, theres quite a big selection of scrapped classics up there. Not open to the public anymore but if you give them a ring they may have what you need.
