Torrents

    Hi,

I am not sure if I am just an over cautious individual or whether paranoia has gotten the better of me.

Basically what I want to find out is how dangerous is using BitTorrent.

Have people in Ireland been prosecuted/warned over its use to download movies illegally etc. I know there were reports of prosecutions over people sharing out large amounts of music with Kazaa and the likes lately (In Ireland). Is BitTorrent as dangerous or more dangerous. Basically should I be sh1tting myself every time I kick off a torrent?

Is there any way to hide your tracks...

    Cheers,

    S

There is no need to be scared at all. I use Bitlord all the time. People only get prosecuted for sharing massive amounts of music, films etc.

I don't know about that, because torrents were never designed to be secure/anonymous. It was created for sharing stuff completely legally, so it is actually very easy to track people using it. If anybody decided to prosecute, they would have absolutely no problem in finding out who you are.

It's like everything; nothing in excess. I doubt you would ever be brought to Court for following your favourite american show by downloading it via torrents, or downloading a few albums or movies. I don't think there's any risk in being a "sound" torrent user either (by uploading as much as you download - keeping a 1:1 ratio)

Where things get risky tho is if you become an active seeder of these things, whereby I mean you actually do the ripping, encoding, and upload it in the first place....

I'm also not a huge fan of registering with private trackers... you never know what might happen to the list of users if the site was prosecuted in the future....

Are you looking for people to give you the OK for breaking the law? WTF

The only torrent you should be using are Unix iso's and free content not copyright protected media.

Thread reported to the Mods

At present the only people who are targetted are huge uploaders who are making content available. The regular Joe-Soap downloader is practically ignored. For now that is....

    For ****s sake lads. X(

To the new people: This kind of discussion is NOT allright on this board. I don't want people telling you that it's ok to do illegal things.

To the non-new people: Jesus lads. Cleaning up this kind of crap is a chore. You should know at this stage that it's not acceptable.
