    Mornin' All,

Just a quick question, we use software that uses a dongle as a hardware lock. This is fine except I recently got a new laptop in that doesnt have a printer port  Anyway, is there anyway to get it to work via USB or seriel port (square peg in a round hole comes to mind  ) without going for a docking station for the laptop.

    Thakns for the help.

    John

Yeah, you can get usb->parallel port adapters. Have a look on ebay. Not sure if a dongle will work with it, but no harm trying.

I don't believe this works. (I have experience in this myself).

Try emailing your software vendor. They've probably encountered this problem before and might supply you with a patch.

ya, there could be issues depending on how their s/w works and what it is expecting to communicate with.

the best option would prob be to contact the s/w vendor and get a patch as suggested, but i would also reccomend ask them for a usb dongle.

unless they are pricks they will exchange the parallel port one for a usb one. they may charge you a few bob though. but its prob the best solution to avoid any probs

Unfortunately, it is a piece of software we rarely use so have let the maintainance lapse on it so...........

Ah well, thanks for the info
