Yes they were cat cat burgling : )

heres whats on the rte page :
Gardaí in Dublin have detained two men after an attempted burglary at Garda Headquarters in the city last night.

The two men, aged 49 and 32, were detained in Kevin Street and Harcourt Terrace Garda Stations.

They were arrested following an attempted break-in at the Dublin Metropolitan Headquarters at Harcourt Square at around 9.45pm.

I missed the tv/radio news - and wondering if anything more has come to light on it.

According to Sindo, it was an attempt to bomb Garda HQ or a detectives car.
Latter more like as one bloke was underneath it carrying out voluntary repairs on it :)

    LOL

One of them was seen acting suspiciously by chatting on a mobile phone outside harcoiurt terrace and was instantly identified as a hitman from the north inner city.

Now spot the 2 mistakes people? A) Talking on a mobile phone in the vicinity of a cop shop is obviously an arrestable offence and B) They knew a hitman was lurking around. So if they know hes a hitman and the evening herald also know hes a hitman why the **** is he not locked up for it?

Perhaps there's not enough evidence/witness statements/proof to arrest let alone convict said hitman?
Far be it from me to defend either the gardaí or the herald, but there are plenty of situations where someone could be a well known criminal but beyond reach by lack of any actual hard evidence to lock them up.

This, for me, just shows the level of impunity that criminals operate with in this country...it's not that they've no fear of getting caught, they just don't seem to give a f*ck.
The place being "burgled" (read "about to be set on fire" IMO) is the new HQ of a specific team of detectives aimed at gangs in Dublin...if they were messin' about with a car, chances are more likely that thye were putting a bug on it, than going to put a bomb in it. Mate of mine used to work at a local garage that serviced some of the unmarked detective cars, said the owner told him the cops would run a scanner over the car after they got it back to check for surveillance devices.
