DVD - RW Issue

I have a DVD Writer a Sony OEM which I purchased about 18 months ago. It worked beautifully for about 12 months and then one day it would not write files to a DVD +R, the same type I had used all the time. There are no drivers out there for it and it relies on Windows to supply the drivers.

    What happens it this:-

Windows XP SP2 will recognize it as a DVD – RW until that is I insert a Recordable DVR + R in into it. The DVD Burner cannot see that there is a DVD + R inserted into it. So basically windows cannot see that there is a blank 4.7 gig recordable DVD. I can burn regular CD RW’s on it no problem.

Now, saying that, I can burn via the DVD RW using either Nero or Alcohol 120% for instance. These apps can see that there is a empty DVD + R ready to be used and it will burn Images, and create DVD movies no problem.

I have set up my DVD – RW in other computers but the same problem happens, Windows will not see that there is a Blank DVD ready to be used, but Nero ect will. I have even gone to the point of testing on this system with another DVD RW and the same problem occurs.

Dose anyone know why windows would not all me to burn DVR + R and Alcohol 120% and Nero Will.

Well.... before what is happening now, I was able to pop in a DVD + R 4.7 gig and use windows explorer to drag and drop files to the DVD + R and burn them successfully.

Right now I can not do that via Windows Explorer.

XP doesn't natively support burning to DVD's you must have had some packet based writing software running in the background like Nero's InCD, perhaps it was damaged or disabled somehow which is why it no longer works & the normal burning applications still do.
