    Hi,
I am buying a new laptop and would like to get wireless broadband for the laptop. I currently have broadband from Bt and use a Zyxel Prestige 600 Series modem the standard that comes with Bt. From Dell I am given two options two buy a wireless modem they are Belkin F5D7230 Wireless Router DSL/Cable (802.11g) or Belkin F5D7632 ADSL Modem/Wireless Router (802.11g). Would I be able to use any of these modems to connect to the internet wirelessly with Bt.

    Thanks
    Conor

Yes, but to be honest Belkin are shit. How much would Dell charge you for each of these?

I reckon you'd be better off buying a better wireless router elsewhere and bridging it with your current DSL modem. Might even be cheaper!

Here are plenty of options ,

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10282

all of these will do , I myself have the 3com , a mate has the linkysys , by all accounts the linksys is the best but ive never had any trouble with the 3 com

They range from 59 up to about 100 euros , and are easy to set up ,all will work with the modem you have ,

Im assuming the laptop has a wireless NIC built in , is it a centrino laptop ?

If not there are bundles on the site above which include a router and a wireless NIC for the laptop

as Andy says Linksys WRT54G is prob the best one. PC World had an offer on last week for a WRT54G and a USB Wireless Adapter together for 80e. Not sure if they have any left still.

BT also supply a Zyxel 660 modem which is also wireless so maybe they might do you a deal. one modem is a lot easier to work with than a modem and a router. give bt a ring and see what they say.

    • L2TP
