I'm just curious, is there a set amount of time that recruitment agencies can keep your details on file?

Do they have to delete your information if they are not in touch after a certain period or can they keep your information indefinitely?

According to dataprotection.ie you have a right to demand that a company delete your information, if they have "no good reason" to hold it.

From what I read there though, it would appear that they may hold your information indefinitely, though they are obliged to ensure that the data is secure and up-to-date. This is clearly an area where recruiters fall over, since I still get emails from recruiters to an address I haven't used on a CV in four years.

    Thank you.

I just got an e-mail from a recruitment agency that I may have left a CV with some 6+ years ago asking for help finding someone for a position (in an area I no longer work in and haven't done for 4 or more years.
If wouldn't be so bad if they'd even contacted me when I originally left my CV in.

    God they are such idiots.

I work through a NY talent agency that typically launders their files every couple of years. Employment agencies? I know someone at Swiss based ADIA, one of the largest in the world, and their policy is to retain your resume for 6 months. I know someone else at one of the largest executive recruiting firms, Corn Ferry, that will hold those records longer because top executives sign contracts of 5 or more years. If you were to send to the agency a formal letter requesting that they delete your file, most of the reputable ones will.
