Once again an excellent tournament hosted by poker events.Approx 90 players which is less than what was expected but with a buy-in of 500€ 8 tickets for the €3000 june open plus cash prizes were on offer. With an excellent structure(first 4 blind levels of 30 mins and thereafter all 40 mins blind levels)there was plenty time for play which was just as well cause I was card dead for the first two hours and only played in three pots but won all three so off to the dinner break with 11,500 (av stack 9000).last in the queue the food ran out before I got to it(chicken a la king),so when offered my choice from the kitchen I had a sumpuos steak.lots of jealous beady eyes on me so I returned to play with a full belly.(lol).And it was a sign of things to come as within 20 mins of restart I was up to 25000 after being dealt JJ twice,A-K twice,10-10 and 9-9,all six raised pots I won with only having to show once.I was having a fierce battle with a player by the name of John Meehan who was similarly stacked but as I was getting the better of him,the more he seemed determined to get involved with me(if I raised a pot,He'd reraise and if I folded to the reraise he.d show 10-8 or 6-4 to tell the table he was getting the better of me.I was delighted as I felt I was going to be the benefisiary of his chips in the end I got them all two pots in a row,the last pot being a PF raise from me with 10-10 which john reraised, flop 10-5-2,I checked he raised,I min raised his raise,he went all in with A-K and I was up to 40,000.Then Nicky Power is moved into John's vacant seat and the crack is 90.Nickys giving it the verbals as he usually does but hes a good friend of mine and im quite enjoying it.Then a huge pot develops where I finish=up cracking Nicky kings with Jacks(im posting a seperate thred on the hand for advice) and I.m up to 55000 with a dangerous opponent gone. Our table is then broken and I go card dead for the last 90 mins of play although with my stack I.m able to pick my spots and collect a few blinds to get my stack up to 69000 overnight,4th in chips with 17 remaining.
Back the next day I'm 4th in chips but CL at my table ,i pick up a couple of blinds in the first hour to keep my stack intact. Then a player is moved onto the table with 135,000 whom I dont know.UTG,I pick up my first real hand of the day(Q-Q),raise to 6,000, he reraises to 16000,I call, flop 4-5-6,I lead out and he puts me virtually all-in with his reraise.I've a big decision to make,I put him on one of 3 hands,K-K,A-A or A-K,two of whick are beating me so reluctantly I lay it down(13 left and 10 for the money).Im also posting this hand seperately for analysis.Anyway,im down to 40,000(still ok) when I'm dealt A-Qs,the bb has only 9000 left so I raise to 7000(blins 1000-2000),Sligo John goes all in for his 9000 and turns over JQ and you guessed it,he hits the jack to bring me down to 26000.now im the shortstack next to him with 13 remaining,so I have to change my game and start playing aggressively moving all-in regularly and luckily not running into a big hand and I make the final table with 39000(av stack-80000).A deal is done where everybody is going to get a ticket and I eventually go out in 7th when my A-Ks is all-in against JJ but no help from the board.I got €3000 as I have already won a ticket so I suppose it was a success though im a bit disappoited I never really got into it on the 2nd day.

Eddie the Eagle won the event, he also won the 300 in Citywest last Jan, Pokerevents seems to be good to him

He rang me on Saturday to tell me the whole story.lol. By sounds of it he won well, he was late going down and loss a few chips been blind away and than on the Saturday, he came back to Dublin for work, drove back down and loss another 2.5k in blinds. He also won his ticket to the event on the Thursday night in the Gresham.lol. So I'm guessing his name was on this cup....

Fair play to him, the K rag merchant.lol

Fair play to him. He must be better in the tourneys than he is on the cash tables.

I think the whole cash thing is fairly new to him.

Really? He dumps at least 2 buy-ins at 2-4 everyday on tribeca. Logout with my username he knows. Log back in with a different one. Add to waiting list. I remember one time when playing live he threw down a straight in an all-in showdown and declared nuts. I turned over the nut flush. lol.

Plays Ax/Kx/Qx way too much and gets in troublew when he hits top pair. Nice guy though.

Tournament play is the exact same. King rag is the business for EtE, even in a raised pot.

The first thing Eddie did after winning this event was sort the dealers with a decent tip. He then left the room and brought a waiter back with him to buy every1 a drink.
He's what I would call a good competitor and never moans when his k rag gets cracked. I'm delighted for him and have a feeling you will see this guy on the poker scene and winning big tourneys in many years to come.

Fintan have you changed the way the tips are distributed in pokerevents? I didn't tip in citywest because I'd heard that it doesn't go to the dealers, if this has changed I apologise.

remarkable, fair play to him, i was amazed when i heard he won the last time, now again, must start playing rags more often.

How much did he get, i cant seem to access pokerevents site for whatever reason.

site is down for me as well.

Eddy's a good guy, and his King rag play is notorious round these parts, and when he flops 2 pair, he's broke many a man.

Those folks in Kilkenny wouldn't have that local knowledge though.

surely consistently playing Ax and Kx into a raise has to be -EV.

He doesn't consistently play Ax Kx he's a bit of a gambler but he's not an idiot.

There is some thought process behind what he does.

I have only played with him twice but I have yet to be convinced of his skill. I have several times seen him play BIGx cards even with raises. I presume there must be some logic to it and it seems to be working for him so fair play, I just can't see the logic. I suppose it is more a boom or bust policy, and I have never played with him when he has gained a big stack by this, so i don't know how he plays a big stack.

The K rag thing was just something that spread and got out of control yes he plays it alot, and usually causes serious damage when he does, lets not make this into something it's not, no one, well I'm not saying he's the next big thing in poker that's just rediclous.

You have K/A-rag merchants, most of these people think it's actually a good hand and a hand that can stand up to big raises, eddie's not an idiot he doesn't think K4 is a big hand.

In a way he's alot like player X, his style scares people and much like player X he'll get a big stack early on, win it, or go home early.

    Utter horse**** Dave.
100% of all tips go directly to the dealers. Donal has full control of tips given by players and these are paid out on a weekly basis.

I am certainly not going to name names but I heard heard a rumour last year that the tips did not go to the Dealers at the big game in Citywest.. Now I know how these rumours can spread out of control, and took it with a pinch of salt. Unfortunately I have not been in a situation where I can tip the dealers in a big event, not being placed (sob sob). I tipped the dealers in every one of the Sit n Goes that I won or came 2nd in. I asked them if the tips were going directly to them and they said yes, so I tipped.

I am glad that it has been clarified, because I feel that tipping is part of the Poker game and certainly should be encouraged.

I am delighted for Eddie, I have played at a table with him, and he is a colourful character and always a gent. And as someone rightly said No bullsh*t and no ego about him.

I agree tipping is a big part of the game and it's important that staff not management receive the tips. I have absolutly no contact with any tips anytime. They are distributed to the dealers by Donal. If someone said any different to yourself I'm willing confront them in public or private if they are willing to back up what they say. If not they I suggest you ignore not only that particular information they gave you but everything else that comes out of their mouth.

Last years christmas party did have a freeroll for all dealers with a separate kitty with the total tips paid out. We have changed it since as some of the dealers felt they it was'nt fair when the better players among them got their share of tips. At the time it was agreed but since last Jan tips are given out on a weekly basis.
