Villain in this hand has been betting in position a lot. This is an unusual raise for him though.

I have been at the table about 1 hr and i've been playing quite tight, although my $30 raise should not raise too many eyebrows at the table. I generally make one of these every round or so.

    ** Game ID 767212261 starting - 2006-04-23 05:46:47

** Killing Bee [Hold 'em] (5.00|10.00 No Limit - Cash Game) Real Money

    - KeithBlack sitting in seat 1 with $2452.50

    - discover sitting in seat 3 with $325.50
    - ocallagh sitting in seat 4 with $1138.50
    - fiveacesfull sitting in seat 5 with $532.67 [Dealer]
    - MiddleAgeMan sitting in seat 6 with $1061.00

MiddleAgeMan posted the small blind - $5.00
KeithBlack posted the big blind - $10.00

** Dealing card to ocallagh: Ace of Clubs, Queen of Hearts

    blkjckpro35 folded
    discover folded
    ocallagh raised - $30.00
    fiveacesfull called - $30.00
    MiddleAgeMan folded
    KeithBlack called - $30.00

** Dealing the flop: Jack of Hearts, 9 of Diamonds, 10 of Clubs

    KeithBlack bet - $90.00
    ocallagh ???

All 3 options have their advantages. I think it depends on the player and what type of dynamic you have established between you two. Specifically how tight he is, what he thinks of you and what his leading standards are. A disadvantage of raising is that he may 3 bet and you will have to fold. This is the type of board that I find often people lead so they can 3 bet. If he has a set you really want to just call here. A disadantage of calling is that you only really have 4 outs -You wont get paid off in a 8 falls and it might not be good enough anyway (which will cost you money) Id actually fold here more often than not, raise the odd time and call very rarely. Raising is good because he may well have a marginal hand (AJ is very marginal there) and cant really call. Even if he slowplayed AA or KK this is a awfull flop.

Raise or fold imo. You don't have great implied odds so i dont like the call unless you think he will slow down on the turn after being called and a good sized bet would take it down regardless of whether you improve or not.

Raise to 250 or dump it. I like folding.

The good thing about calling is that the king is like a super out, it gives you the nuts whilst giving anyone else with a queen an expensive second best band

yeah brain not working didnt see that. Call doesnt look so bad then. Villain could well be betting $90 with QJ or QT so there are significant implied odds. If a K drops you may well stack him. I still prefer raising to calling though gives you two ways of winning of course.

If he calls your raise more likely than not he will check the turn to you. In this case if you dont improve you will get to see the river cheaper than if you simply call the flop because he you will usually be faced with another decent sized bet on the turn if it is a blank.

Push is v.bad IMHO. You get called by 2pair+ and what hands does he lead into a pre-flop raiser with on this board?

He doesnt have any marginal 88/77/66 type stuff here. So he either has a QJ type hand that he wants to bet/3-bet all-in when you raise, or he has a two/pair/set/straight type hand that he also wants to bet/3-bet all-in.

Push is also waaaayyyy overbetting the pot, and looks really suspicious, and wont make him fold anything that you want him to fold.

Call is ok, because, as HJ says the K is a money card, and he might pay off a little if you hit your 8.

Fold is ok too, because pot is small, it hasnt cost you much, and you have no real hand to speak of.

    Thanks for the input.

Since moving up a few levels I've tightened up considerably (well.. from maniac to tight aggressive). My style of play has changed so much that my judgement has been off a bit.... I'd have no problem calling this at 2/4 whch got me thinking was the money a deciding factor... Glad to see it was a marginal situation and not an auto call.

I folded which is the exciting conclusion....
