I was thinking of getting into a bit of fashion/closeup photography, just wondering if anyone had any hints or tips. I plan on mainly using natural light, perhaps augmented by some natural light lamps. I don't have much in the way of flash equipment, only the usual tripod and a couple of SLRs. My ultimate goal is to produce a calendar for some sort of charity, giving me a chance to practice the shooting.

In terms of subject material, I'm thinking very tasteful imagery with a strong emphasis on lighting and colour. I'll post examples of the kind of thing I'm thinking of when I find them.

Fashion photography is an area I'd love to get in to, I'll be interested to see what people say! I think Finoblad is a fashion photographer!

maybe after i get more experience, a group event could be organised. It would need serious care to make sure it doesn't get seedy tho!

Ah that's common sense really. Hmmm...I'm in college with a lot of fashion students...So if it were to be organised, they could come in handy.

[offtopic] Think that's bad, I had to go to the doc today with a pain in my kneecap. Turns out it's from kneeling, which I extensively do when shooting... I'm gonna have to wear knee pads in future...cartiladge tearing...oh noes...[/offtopic]

But here here to the photo shoot, we'll try get the trip to Trim done first though. We could use the thread at the top to discuss all outings!

I've done several fashion shoots but I'm not a "fashion photographer" as such, I love it but theres not a lot of work/opportunities around. Most magazines/companies stick with the same team of stylists and photographers and its difficult to break into unfort.

bad idea, it would be like having 6 directors on a movie or 6 chefs in a kitchen.

ha! try coming around from blacking out to find your kneecap 100 degrees out of place near the back of your leg, with tendons torn too! i won't be kneeling for quite some time i fear.

but indeed, yay to the shooting. since i use a lot of my dad's equipment, close up fashion stuff might be more viable than other formats for me, because macro wildlife photography being his field of interest (i have to admit, he's pretty good at it. he's had a few exhibitions now and theres about 5 government publications coming out soon for schools that are use his stuff). but no wide angle lenses, so I'll have to invest myself in that department.

molc...were you wtaching calender girls last night?:p

sounds good, but photographs of what exactly, one possibility would be to offer ourselves as a group to one of the colleges fashion shows? thats all i can think of, otherwise its gonna be difficult to find a group of people to model for a group of lads who met online!!!!:o
